Liverpool Transfer News: Dani Alves Rumours, Carl Jenkinson Interest Emerges
Barcelona's Dani Alves has handed Liverpool a boost in their pursuit of the right-back, as the Brazil international turned down a renewed contract offer from the Catalan giants.
Alves' current deal at Barca expires in the summer, and if he does not pen a new contract before then, he will be a free agent. He is being pursued by the Reds along with Manchester United, per Metro's Vaishali Bhardwaj.
It seems club and player have been unable to agree on new terms, based on recent comments from Alves' agent and ex-wife Dinorah Santana, who confirms the 31-year-old has rejected the latest offer, per the Liverpool Echo's Joe Rimmer.

"The negotiations are over," she said. "If they say this is the final offer, then they (negotiations) are over. It doesn't make sense. It's very hard that we get to April and Barcelona haven't thought about renewing Dani's contract. Dani is sad."
Alves now seems bound for the exit door at the Camp Nou, and as a player of great quality, he will no doubt be pursued by a variety of clubs in the summer.
Many at Barca will be disappointed to see Alves leave, with Sport Witness relaying a recent fan poll that shows a majority of people are in support of him being offered a new contract:
However, he would be a fine addition to Brendan Rodgers' squad and an improvement on the likely departing Glen Johnson, per the Express' Charles Perrin.
A fine attacking right-back, Alves' delivery into the box is impressive. He could be threatening with the likes of attacking duo Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling in the Liverpool side, assuming the English youngster stays at the club over the summer, which is not a guarantee, per B/R UK's James McNicholas:
Rodgers is likely to face competition for Alves' signature, though, with Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal eager to bring in a high-quality right-back in the summer.
Surprise Target Jenkinson Emerges

Another potential Johnson replacement who has emerged recently is Englishman Carl Jenkinson, currently enjoying a largely successful season-long loan at West Ham United from Arsenal.
The Hammers had looked all set to turn said loan spell into a full-time switch for the 23-year-old in the summer, per Metro's Lewis Rudd, but Liverpool are now reportedly looking to hijack the move, per Andrew Dillon in The Sun.
Jenkinson has appeared 25 times in the Premier League this season for West Ham and has been largely impressive, while his showings for the England under-21 side have also drawn praise, per talkSPORTDrive:
However, a return to Arsenal would severely limit the youngster's first-team opportunities, with Hector Bellerin establishing himself in the right-back position at the Emirates this season.
A permanent move away from north London seems likely this summer for Jenkinson, and he no doubt would be open to a move to a club as huge as Liverpool.
Some may argue he is not good enough for the Anfield outfit, but he would likely improve under Rodgers' tutelage and could well be an astute signing for Liverpool in the summer.
