Tillman Signs with Panthers
Saturday, April 11
Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun provided financial details of the contract:
On April 9, the Panthers announced that Tillman signed a one-year deal and also tweeted out a photo of him putting ink to paper:
On April 8, Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com noted that Tillman visited the team.
The Panthers' secondary was a solid 11th in the NFL last season in passing yards allowed per game, but the team could certainly use more depth at the cornerback position as it tries to take the next step in the race toward the Super Bowl.
Tillman may be 34 years old, but he is one of the most proven corners in the league.
He was a first-team All-Pro in 2012 and has 36 interceptions, 42 forced fumbles and eight touchdowns in his career. Tillman is known for punching the ball out when he makes tackles, which creates those turnover situations.
Outside of his age, the drawback with Tillman is he suffered season-ending triceps tears in the last two years and hasn’t been on the field much recently. He remains a health risk.
Nevertheless, the Panthers made the playoffs last year and are ready to compete now, which is the situation a seasoned veteran is surely looking for late in his career.
Tillman certainly fits that bill.
