Derrick Rose Injury Update: Star Returns from Knee Surgery vs. Magic

Mike ChiariApr 8, 2015

After missing 20 games due to knee surgery, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose returned to action Wednesday night.

With Rose in the starting lineup against the Orlando Magic, he scored nine points on 3-of-9 shooting, while dishing out two assits and grabbing two rebounds in 19 minutes of action. However, the Bulls fell to the Magic, 105-103.

Rose's knee problems over the past few years are well-documented (torn ACL April 28, 2012; torn medial meniscus in right knee Nov. 22, 2013; same injury Feb. 24, 2015).

Friedell passed along Rose's thoughts on his return:

Chicago, the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference at 46-32, will need Rose running the show if the Bulls are to get past the Hawks and Cavs, among other contenders, once the playoffs begin.

The 26-year-old former MVP was averaging 18.4 points, five assists and 3.1 rebounds per game before going down this season, although he struggled with efficiency (40.7 percent from the field, 28.7 percent from three).

Aaron Brooks has been running the show in his stead, though the 6'0" guard would have a difficult time guarding Jeff Teague, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Lowry or John Wall in the postseason.
