Chelsea Transfer News: Mo Salah to Land Blues £18m, Sergio Ramos Rumours Denied

Nick AkermanApr 8, 2015

Chelsea could be set to receive up to £18 million for the eventual sale of Mohamed Salah, a player who set the Blues back £11 million in January 2014.

Salah failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, starting just seven Premier League games across his season at the club, per WhoScored.com. Little of the flair, goalscoring knack and creativity we saw at Basel came out until he joined Fiorentina on loan in January, a move which looks to be a success for all involved.

Matt Law of The Telegraph suggests Fiorentina have already decided to keep Salah for a further season, landing Chelsea £1.5 million. An option-to-buy comes in at the conclusion of 2015-16, with Law suggesting "Chelsea claim they will actually end up receiving around £18 million in total for Salah."

He has certainly looked like a top-class player since heading to Florence. Salah has scored seven and assisted two in 13 appearances for the Serie A club, recorded by WhoScored. He has shown flashes of individual brilliance—such as his tremendous double in March's win over Juventus—while also working well with team-mates.

Salah's goals against Juve can be seen below:

The London Evening Standard (cited by Calciomercato and via Football Italia) suggests Juventus and Roma are interested in the player. Chelsea are allowed to consider any offer higher than Fiorentina's agreement, per Football Italia.

Chelsea are yet to see the benefit of bringing Juan Cuadrado to west London from Fiorentina, but he can't be judged until he has a full pre-season under his belt.

Any money Chelsea receive will likely be reinvested in the squad. Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos has been linked with the club, per Ben Jefferson of the Express, but an interview given by his brother-agent suggests the Spaniard is going nowhere.

Rene Ramos spoke to El Chiringuito TV (h/t Jefferson):

"

The extension of Sergio Ramos? The club and the president know where to find us. Sergio is very happy at Real Madrid and anything that gets reported now is just rumours.

As long as he has a contract with the club, I see Sergio with the Real Madrid shirt and nothing else. No offer from another club has arrived on my desk. These are only rumours but that's part of football.

"

Jose Mourinho has one of the most complete squads in Europe at his disposal, so it will take a special player to make an impression. As seen with Salah's excellent form at both Fiorentina and Basel, showing this tremendous quality at Chelsea is a much tougher proposition altogether.

Although fans may be disappointed to see very little of the Egyptian, any profit on his sale should be welcomed in the era of UEFA's financial fair play rules.
