Guess Who Didn't Meet The Animal People?

Judy DavidsonAug 25, 2009

I hate running on about Vick - we give him too much attention but this is more about the (B)Eagles than the player. It is about respect, selling out and a few other choice things.  I took the "hit" for Myers yesterday - pretty funny.  Eagles fans want to find anyone to lash out at (lashing, hmm, another great picture).  However, Myers aside, which he is at the moment...Phillies look amazing.  A few tweaks to the pitching rotation, a few prayers that the baseball gods smile at Hamels and we are off to the World Serious.  For Philly to be playing as well as the Yankees and Red Sox is something to be thrilled about.  The team continues to bring in talent, keep their older players and overall behave well in public.  Why can an Eagles fan not have a little red blood in their veins?  Now they are comparing bad and worse in off the field behavior.  How I love the Phillies, always have, always will.

Love the Eagles too but some of the fans are a little off the top.  I am not a PETA fan ( People Eating Tasty Animals) but I do love animals.  I am more of an animal rescue person than an SPCA person preferring to find animals homes to gassing them but support both.  I own a rescue poodle (from the SPCA) and another poodle as well as one rescue cat and one fat cat...the bird just died.  I have been in the process of convincing my husband to rescue another poodle but the last one has ruined the carpet. Sorry - but had to get that personal back round in!

Which brings me to the Eagle's meeting with the Animal Rights people last night.  The no shows were the cast of characters who were so contrite the past week...Andy Reid (father of two drug dealers), Jeff Lurie (who considers himself an animal rescue person) and the star of the show, Michael Vick (who most likely is wandering around his new uber expensive diggs on Penn's Landing while playing with his goldfish, hee hee).  The new cast of characters were MIA Joe Banner, and Eagles Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Pamela Browner-Crawley.  The two explained that in bringing Vick here they are helping the dog fighting problem in Philly, gee guys, it wasn't a football decision? There are follow up meetings... but really!  Wow, the Eagles know how to dazzle the public!  Kumbaya!

You "Doggie Advocate" people who left convinced that it is now all peachy didn't want to see Vick shed a tear?  (Wonder what you are being paid to make nice?) I sure wanted Vick's feet held to the fire and I want Andy Reid to explain how this was not a football decision but a second chance.  Jeff Lurie you know if you bring home the Lombardi Trophy in February...you will finally get invited to sit with the popular kids at the Bar Mitzvah.   Suddenly Joe Banner and Whatsherface show up full of platitudes.  Did anything of substance come out of this...from what I read, Nada.  The real animal lovers work with puppies who are abused every day and need the financial help.  They need Vick to man up and maybe take a trip to a dog fight with the cops?  Novel idea!

Here is my personal offer to Michael Vick (sans the Eagles). ................Mano a Mano, you and me, alone, no handlers, at JJ Elephant Sports.  I am a former social worker as well as an addiction counselor and many an ex con has spent time in my clinic office.  If you are truly repentant, believe me, I will know.  Then bring in my customers, with their pets, and you make nice to Fee-fee, Rover, Spot, Pepe and the rest of the pooches. Bring some jerseys and helmets (I will take and print the fan photos) and give them to animal rescue shelters to sell and raise money. No press unless you want it after we meet.  This is serious and since you are here for a while, let's see if we can find and present your humane side to friends and foes alike.

My money is where my mouth is, if anyone has access to Vick, give him my phone number 484.202.8422. I am dead serious!
