Chipotle Burrito

Lots of places to find authentic burritos in Chicago, but I still prefer Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Chicken with black beans, corn, salsa, hot sauce and guacamole (yes, I know it cost extra) is how I roll.

Trying to eat the whole thing without spilling a single drop is a weird habit of mine, and it’s not often that I pull it off.

Tonight I gobbled one down to about the last three bites before it completely fell apart–call it a four napkin cleanup.

That burrito was looking a lot like the Cubs this season: plenty of good stuff on the inside, but a real mess towards the end.

And forget about napkins, you’d need a power washer to clean up this 1-5 West Coast swing.

Chicago has been outscored on the trip 22-14, with seven of their runs coming in one game, dropped eight games back in the division and 7.5 back of the Wild Card.

Or should I simply mention they’re now just a single game above .500?

Let’s just assume the Dodgers complete a four game sweep Sunday before the Cubs return home to face Washington and New York.

And if the Cards win again down the road in sunny San Diego, Chicago falls nine back of the Central lead entering Monday’s off day.

Yet despite a favorable schedule which has the Cubs playing 24 of its next 40 games at Wrigley, 23 of which are against teams with a sub-.50 record, it’s too big a cleanup to fathom a record comeback.

Once a burrito falls apart there’s no putting it back together, you just simply cleanup and move on.
