WWE Extreme Rules 2015: Titles Most Likely to Change Hands at Event

Aaron BowerApr 7, 2015

Following on from the excitement and drama of WWE WrestleMania 31, the next pay-per-view on the calendar for WWE fans is Extreme Rules.

It's a pay-per-view where anything can happen, and with perhaps more stipulations than at any point throughout the year, it is a show that could create some serious drama for fans of the WWE.

Talk is already starting to shift toward the potential championship matches we could see on show, and a glimpse at whether those who tasted success at WrestleMania will be able to back that up with another win here.

Although every championship in the WWE is likely to be defended, it doesn't mean they will all be successfully retained.

Take the WWE Tag Team Championships, for example. Since Cesaro and Tyson Kidd won the championships recently, the division has started to become much stronger in terms of substance.

The Prime Time Players seemed to suggest they are aiming to get back in the picture following a promo on Raw this past week, and The Usos can never be discounted as long as they are together and competing regularly.

But it's another side who are starting to catch the eye of the champs and emerge as the top challengers for Cesaro and Kidd at Extreme Rules.

The Lucha Dragons' debut on Raw the night after WrestleMania was an impressive way to announce themselves on the main stage in WWE, and they managed to back that up with another strong showing this week.

The win against The New Day was filled with some enjoyable and dramatic spots, most of which have been coming from the excitable Kalisto, who seems to have something very special about him.

That's not to take anything away from Sin Cara, though. Together as a team, The Lucha Dragons are a pair who are pretty easy to buy into as a WWE fan.

Should they tackle Cesaro and Kidd at Extreme Rules, there's every possibility that the duo could walk away with gold at the pay-per-view and kick off an interesting and exciting rivalry with the current champions.

With WWE's decision to go with two of its biggest stars claiming midcard championships at WrestleMania, it's pretty difficult to envisage either the Intercontinental Championship or United States Championship changing hands at Extreme Rules.

Having John Cena or Daniel Bryan drop the belts after less than a month in possession seems unlikely, as does the thought of Seth Rollins coming up short in his quest to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

However, WWE does have another championship that may be ready for a new holder, and that's the Divas Championship.

With the title not being defended at WrestleMania, WWE has clearly decided it will be put up for grabs at Extreme Rules, with a battle royal on Raw next week to decide who will face Nikki Bella for the title.

This will be an interesting contest, not least because it could produce a number of legitimate winners that could realistically dethrone Nikki at Extreme Rules. Paige would perhaps be the favorite given her and AJ Lee's recent feud with The Bella Twins, but there are other options.

You wonder if WWE has seen the success of stars such as Neville and The Lucha Dragons since stepping up after WrestleMania and wonder whether the gap left by AJ's retirement needs to be filled by a NXT Diva.

With Sasha Banks now NXT Women's Champion, could this be the moment where Charlotte makes a significant impact on the main roster? There's clearly a gap after AJ retired for a Diva to emerge and make an impact, and should she fight in the battle royal next week, she certainly could be a realistic contender to go on and win and beat Nikki Bella.
