Ramos' Agent Denies Madrid Exit Rumours

Wednesday, April 8

Rene Ramos, the player's brother and representative, has branded speculation as nothing more than "rumours." He spoke to El Chiringuito TV (h/t Ben Jefferson of the Express):

"

The extension of Sergio Ramos? The club and the president know where to find us. Sergio is very happy at Real Madrid and anything that gets reported now is just rumours.

As long as he has a contract with the club, I see Sergio with the Real Madrid shirt and nothing else. No offer from another club has arrived on my desk. These are only rumours but that's part of football.

Bayern Make Ramos Contact?

Tuesday, April 7

Ramos' contract expires in 2017, and despite being expected to commit his long-term future to the club, a report from Vox Populi (h/t Sport) indicates Madrid may have received an "unexpected problem" in the process of tying Ramos down. It is suggested Rene received a call during the recent international break about the availability of his sibling.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola has regularly dipped into the Spanish market since taking over the German side. Thiago Alcantara joined the former Barcelona manager during his first season while Juan Bernat and Madrid's Xabi Alonso made the change in the summer.

According to Sport, Ramos is hoping to land a net wage of €11 million per season at the Bernabeu. It is reported Madrid will offer €8 million, perhaps providing Bayern with a gap to sneak into. Speculation surrounding the World Cup winner's future could force Madrid President Florentino Perez to up Ramos' money further in order to maintain him.

Football coach Arrigo Sacchi recently visited Madrid's training ground, later telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that the club are unwilling to meet Ramos' demands, per EFE (h/t Marca): "I spoke to my friend Sergio Ramos at the end of the session. He asked me what I thought about his contract problems. He told me: 'I want to renew my contract, but Florentino is offering me less money. What do you think?'"

Ramos recently celebrated his 29th birthday, so the next contract he inks is likely to take him through to the twilight years of his career. He joined Madrid a decade ago and has since become one of the sport's most dominant defenders, transitioning into the middle from right-back. He is powerful, quick, a smart ball-player and excellent reader of the game.

The former Sevilla man also scores vital goals, highlighted in last season's Champions League. His qualities are exhibited below:

Bayern regularly use Jerome Boateng, Dante, Mehdi Benatia and Javi Martinez at centre-back. Ramos would easily force his way into the first team and could offer a sturdier presence than the aforementioned quartet. Guardiola knows exactly what the player is about—his Blaugrana outfit regularly battled with Madrid for silverware—so potential interest is hardly surprising.

It's likely Ramos and Madrid will find some middle ground soon, particularly as he remains vital to the club. Even so, any suitors circling Ramos' position will likely make Madrid supporters nervous even if his departure would finally allow youngster Raphael Varane to step into a prominent role.
