What Dolphin Dreams May Come with Jason Taylor's Return?

Tim KolbergAug 24, 2009

Two games down, two to go.

Miami Dolphins Offensive Coordinator Dan Henning let the "Wildcat" formation out of the bag with mild success.  Jason Taylor returns to Miami, igniting the defensive front.  The Dolphins have an in depth running game?

What more could Head Hoach Tony Sparano and the Miami Dolphins ask for up to this point in the preseason?  Chopped liver?  How about a consistent quarterback?

Pat White has not seen much playing time at quarterback, and I like this kid.  He's got drive in him.  Give this guy a football, and lets see what he can do with the "Wildcat" formation.

Chad Henne leads the team this preseason with 17 of 27 passes completed for 169 yards, 2 touchdowns and a pick. People have been telling me that this guy is the future of Miami, but hold your horses folks lets stay in the moment.

Chad Pennington is still the leader of this football team, but I have yet to see him make a big play in the 2009 preseason.  Look for him to step up his game in the final two match ups to come.

I did see a big play from a small face on the sideline.

Fourth string running back Lex Hilliard had a 39 yard touchdown explosion near the end of the Carolina Panthers game last Saturday.  Not to mention he has been the leading rusher in each of the first two games for the Dolphins racking up a total of 94 yards on 18 carries.

Need I mention that in a recent miamidolphins.com poll Lex Hilliard was voted the most impressive running back from last Saturday's game.  The battle for running back spots is starting to heat up in Miami.

Ricky Williams is not as speedy as his younger self, but he still has gas in the tank and a role on this team to share the work load on carries.

Ronnie Brown has proven he can run, and to some extent can pass.  Just having this guy out in the field adds excitement to the offense.

Patrick Cobbs is an all around weapon.  He can give you decent yards per carry average.  He can line up outside, catch the ball and run with it.  He does what he is there to do.

Back to Lex.  If Lex Hilliard keeps up this performance throughout the preseason does Miami have a spot for him in the roster?  Does another team have a spot for him in their roster?  I would hate to see this guy get stuck in the practice squad for another year.  I would love to see Lex tested in a first string offense defense scenario.

What do you think Coach Sparano?  Bill Parcells?  Give this guy a shot to make the team already.

Looking ahead.

I think as long as quarterback Chad Pennington has the confidence level that he needs from himself along with support from his teammates, Ronnie and Ricky get it done on the ground, and the Dolphin "D" step it up in the backfield then Miami fans get your dream caps out this coming season.
