Ronda Rousey vs. Stephanie McMahon Reportedly Discussed for WWE WrestleMania 32
The wrestling world was abuzz when UFC Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 31, but that may not be the last that WWE fans see of her on sports entertainment's biggest stage.
According to Dave Meltzer of MMAFighting.com, plans are currently in place for Rousey to take on WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon in a singles match next year at WrestleMania 32, which will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Rousey's involvement at WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, California, came when The Rock brought her in from the crowd to confront Steph and Triple H. It resulted in "Rowdy" hip tossing The Game and threatening to break McMahon's arm before letting her go.
On April 3, Rousey commented on her appearance:
On the heels of that altercation, many wondered if it might have been the precursor to a mixed tag team match, including Wade Keller of PWTorch.com:
If Meltzer's report is correct, however, Rousey will essentially have the stage all to herself. Bleacher Report's Jonathan Snowden had some fun with a Twitter follower's statement following Meltzer's report:
"Um, Stephanie a former champ. Who has Rousey beat? RT @ConorFertitta If the WWE has Ronda losing to Stephanie McMahon, it should shut down
— Jonathan Snowden (@mmaencyclopedia) April 6, 2015"
The mixed tag might ultimately be a better idea since it would allow The Rock and Triple H to do the bulk of the in-ring work, with Rousey getting involved in a few select spots.
At the same time, breaking up the four competitors would allow WWE to spread its talent across a card that could draw more than 100,000 fans.
Regardless of how Rousey is ultimately utilized, there is no question that securing her for a WrestleMania match would be one of the biggest coups WWE has scored in quite some time.
