Delhi Daredevils v Rajasthan Royals, IPL: Date, Time, TV, Live Stream, Preview

Alex TelferApr 11, 2015

After comfortably ousting last year's finalists Kings XI in their opening game, Rajasthan Royals turn their attention to the hapless Delhi Daredevils, who have won just one of their last 13.

But having strengthened considerably preseason and pushing Chennai close, are Delhi the pushovers that their recent record suggests?

Let's take a look at how the two sides are shaping up ahead of the sixth match of the 2015 Indian Premier League.

Rajasthan's thumping of the powerful Kings XI on Friday was a real show of intent, and even more impressively, they did it without their injured captain, Shane Watson.

The Australian all-rounder is expected to return for this clash, however, creating something of a selection conundrum with just four overseas players being allowed in a starting XI.

In-form James Faulkner and Steve Smith are undroppable, leaving either Tim Southee, who dismissed Virender Sehwag for a duck in Pune, or Chris Morris who delivered four miserly overs for just 21 runs, having to make way.

One man who will surely play is the little-known Deepak Hooda.

Aged just 19, the right-handed batsman showed no fear in facing Mitchell Johnson and blasted 30 runs off just 15 balls, including three maximums, to help the Royals reach a competitive total of 162.

Faulkner, Morris and the 43-year-old Pravin Tambe then took over to strangle the life out of a normally free-scoring Kings XI line-up with their different styles of bowling.

Expect a similar game plan in the Indian capital from an experienced Royals side that, after narrowly missing out on a top-four finish in 2014, showed faith in most of their squad at the IPL8 auction.

The same can't be said about the Delhi Daredevils, who retained just 11 of their 25 players from last season and have splashed the cash.

However, despite appearing to be much stronger on paper, they made a losing start against Chennai, with some strange tactics perhaps costing them the game.

Record signing Yuvraj Singh was hidden away at sixth in the batting order, followed by new skipper JP Duminy, who came in at seven, meaning a lot of time was wasted plodding along in pursuit of a fairly ordinary score.

It would be a surprise if these big-hitters stayed as low in the order against Rajasthan.

On the other hand, Albie Morkel, who played a quality innings coming in first wicket down to score an unbeaten 73 from 55 balls will surely retain his position.

While with the ball, Duminy, Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra formed a testing slow-bowling trio against the Super Kings, conceding just 63 runs from their combined 10 overs.

These two sides have met 14 times in the IPL, with Rajasthan emerging as victors on eight occasions.

Players to Watch

Delhi

JP Duminy has a real opportunity to step out from the shadow of some of his more illustrious colleagues here.

The 30-year-old has struggled for consistency throughout his career, but being made Daredevils' captain could help bring the best out of the talented all-rounder.

While his bowling can be effective, as evidenced by his 4,289 Twenty20 runs, it is with the bat that Duminy does his best work, but surely he has to move higher up the order.

Rajasthan

Australian skipper-in-waiting Steve Smith has been red-hot for many months, culminating in five consecutive half-centuries at the 2015 World Cup. And even among a line-up as talented as Rajasthan's, the 25-year-old's wicket will be the key target for opposition attacks. Early in his career, Smith was primarily a spin bowler, but these days he is a consummate batsman equally capable of rotating the strike or throwing the bat.

Prediction

Given that Rajasthan's team is fairly settled and Delhi are in a state of flux, a win for Shane Watson's men is the obvious choice. But if the Daredevils push Yuvraj and Duminy higher up the order, it could be a tight one.
