Michigan Spring Game 2015: Live Score, Top Performers and Analysis

Adam BiggersApr 4, 2015

Michigan Spring Game: Blue 7, Maize 0

When it comes to offense, Michigan’s spring game left a lot to be desired, but the Wolverines looked solid on the defensive side of the ball during their first run under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

True freshman Alex Malzone, an early enrollee, started at quarterback for the Maize Team. Shane Morris, a junior with a lot to prove, started for the Blue Team. Neither quarterback gave way to a replacement—so it’s probably safe to assume that they lead the QB race.

Of course, that’s until Jake Rudock, a transfer from Iowa, is eligible this fall.

Defense Top Performer

Blue: Joe Bolden had 12 tackles after three quarters. The senior linebacker will most certainly be a leading man this fall. Coming up big on Saturdays—those in the fall—means more than a Saturday during spring, but Michigan will take it. Bolden, who had three tackles for a loss, was a monster during the spring fling.

Ben Gedeon, a junior, had six tackles through three quarters. He should serve as a great compliment to Bolden this fall and help compensate for the loss of Jake Ryan, who was a senior in 2014.

Maize: Willie Henry, a D-lineman, had four tackles. So did Chris Wormley, another D-liner, and Royce Jenkins-Stone, a linebacker. Take your pick.

Offense Top Performer

Blue: Shane Morris threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jaron Dukes. So they both deserve mention as top performers. Morris, a junior, appeared to gain confidence in the second half after being spotted high-fiving Harbaugh by MLive’s Nick Baumgardner.

Maize: Maurice Ways had three catches for 35 yards, most of which came during late in the third quarter. Jehu Chesson had two catches for 23 yards.
