Urban Leaving For Notre Dame? Never Says The Gator Nation!

Brad ParrishAug 24, 2009

The Florida Gator program is looking more beastly then ever and it seems they have found their man to steer the ship as it sails through the waters of college football dominance.  But don't think for one minute that now that he is here and has won a few National Championships he will be forever.  Urban Meyer is a lock for at least the next couple of years at Florida unfortunately for anyone who is not a gator fan, but with his all time dream job being to coach the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, eventually he will leave and go live that fantasy sooner or later.  Why will he be in Gainesville the next couple of years for sure?

One obvious reason would be because the Gator Program is so stacked and powerful in the best conference in the country hands down (No substance to your moans Bit Ten and Lac 12)

Another very obvious reason would be that Notre Dame is not anywhere near as good as they have been in the past or as the Irish fan's would like right now and the return to achieving those expectations is looking slow and unsteady. (even if they are over ranked at 23 and that crazy old ball coach Lou Holtz wants to go on TV and say they have a shot at a BCS championship this year....what a crazy guy)  Why would any coach leave a program that is at one of its peak's of performance and success for another program, even if it is a true dream of his, that is just in such uncertain and rough shape?  It would be a crazy move and although some coach's look for the challenge of rebuilding a program that is at a low point in its history and need's further work, Meyer's past would suggest that he wouldn't leave Florida without being able to go somewhere that is at least mostly built and ready for success, and the only place I believe anyone see's him running off to would be Notre Dame.

As the recruiting and strength of competition becomes more and more affected by Nick Saban, Les Miles, Mark Richt and possibly even the media manipulator himself Lane Kiffin and if Florida were to lose some of its prowess and strong arm over the SEC, if Charlie Weiss is somehow able to get that program back to the strength that it once was or even close, Its definitely possible to see Urban Meyer leaving to fulfil his dream of coaching Notre Dame somewhere between 3-5 years from now.

Now I can already here the whines and vulgar comments that you always get from the Gator fans whenever you bring this up, probably just the fear of their program not being a BCS championship contender every year, and god knows id be scared of that if  I was in their shoe's with a favorite team of mine.  I just wouldn't be so immature about it.  The fact of the matter is that with his 30 plus million dollar contract that has a mere $500,000 dollar "I wanna go somewhere else now" buyout included, to say that the idea of him leaving hasn't crossed his mind already would be just ignoramus and unrealistic.  Why else would you fight so hard to make sure it was in your contract?

So when you gator fans sit around and talk about your "golden god, best coach ever, never gonna leave us" coach, just dont be so obnoxious and flamboyant about it because you never know when he may all the sudden announce after the BCS game you play in that year, that he is leaving to go to Notre Dame.
