Timothy RappApr 2, 2015

Washington Reportedly Interested in Thomas

Thursday, April 2

While Thomas has remained on the market perhaps longer than might have been expected given his productivity over the years, at least one team is interested in his services, per John Keim of ESPN.

"Former New Orleans Saints back Pierre Thomas also remains free," Keim noted. "The Redskins have expressed interest in him, according to a source. But they likely will see what happens in the draft first before deciding how to proceed with Thomas. At this point, he's a name to watch."

With Roy Helu now in Oakland, Thomas would be a great fit for the team as a third-down back to complement Alfred Morris, who has never been a threat in the passing game.

Thomas, on the other hand, often filled that role for New Orleans. Last season, he caught 45 passes for 378 yards and a score while adding 45 rushes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. In 2013, however, he set career highs with 77 receptions for 513 receiving yards, and his three receiving touchdowns tied a career high.

Thomas, 30, still can be productive for a team despite hitting the age when many backs are expected to decline, as he doesn't have the wear and tear that players who were featured runners possess. Since he was often in a platoon in New Orleans, he should still be pretty fresh despite his age and would be a nice addition for Washington.
