Neymar Speaks on Time at Barcelona, Potentially Playing in Premier League
Barcelona star Neymar praised former team-mate Alexis Sanchez after Brazil's 1-0 friendly win over Chile, but while he loved playing alongside the Arsenal forward, he has no plans of moving to the Premier League.
As reported by the London Evening Standard's Richard Parry, the 23-year-old thinks back on the time Sanchez lined up for the Blaugrana with great pleasure: "Alexis is a big friend and someone who I had the privilege of playing with at Barcelona. We used to get along very well on and off the field, so I’m very happy to see him so well at Arsenal. As for playing in England myself, I’m very happy playing for Barcelona and I still have a long road to walk here."
Sanchez secured a move to the Gunners in the summer of 2014 and has been a smash hit at the Emirates, becoming one of the club's most pivotal players, per Bleacher Report's James McNicholas:
Neymar stayed behind in Barcelona and has enjoyed a spectacular season, teaming up with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and leading the Blaugrana to the top of the La Liga standings. Per WhoScored.com, his 17 league goals are third best in Spain, behind only Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Neymar's best football is clearly still ahead of him, but he's already a global phenomenon and a world-class performer. As shared by Purely Football, his numbers for the national team are staggering:
Plenty of Premier League clubs would love to bring Neymar to the British Isles, but the forward's particular skill set is tailor-made for Barcelona, and there have been no real signs of trouble.
While Messi has been mentioned in transfer talks throughout the year, Neymar's name has hardly ever come up. The Brazilian seems perfectly happy in Catalonia, and with Barcelona not looking to sell, a hypothetical transfer would likely smash the current record for highest fee ever paid.
Neymar may leave the Catalans one day, but at this stage of his career, a transfer seems all but impossible. As he said himself, he still has much to accomplish with the Blaugrana, and while the Premier League would be a likely destination in the event of a move, fans will probably have to wait several more years for that to happen.
