Thomas Skips Offseason Workouts, Elway Weighs In on Contract

Thursday, April 23

Jeff Legwold of ESPN provided comments from John Elway, who spoke about Thomas' contract situation

On March 30, Legwold reported Thomas would skip workouts:

This is a pretty typical move for players looking to ensure long-term contract extensions, especially players who just got hit with the franchise tag, so it should hardly come as a surprise that Thomas has gone this route.

Bleacher Report's Chris Simms discussed whether the Broncos have cause for concern with Thomas skipping offseason workouts:

Thomas, 27, certainly knows he's in line to be one of the highest, if not the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

He's coming off of a monster season that saw him catch 111 passes for 1,619 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he's now caught at least 90 passes, accumulated 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in three straight seasons. He's reached the Pro Bowl three times and is a two-time second-team All-NFL selection by The Associated Press.

It's hard to imagine Thomas and the Broncos not agreeing to an extension at some point in the next year, perhaps before the season begins. He's far too valuable for the team to lose, and Thomas knows he gets to play in one of the better offenses in the NFL.

It's a match made in heaven, in other words. And heaven, in this case, will likely make Thomas a very rich man.
