Brian Hartline and Cleveland Cavaliers Take Young Cancer Patients to Prom

Dan CarsonMar 30, 2015

Brian Hartline is adjusting to his new home in Cleveland, and he appears more than ready to jump in and participate in local team traditions.

The newly minted Cleveland Browns wide receiver's first order of business was joining members of the Cleveland Cavaliers in treating 166 teenagers and their dates to the quintessential high school experience—spring prom.

The Plain Dealer's Tom Feran reported that Hartline attended Saturday night's "A Prom to Remember" at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Cleveland, while Kevin Jones of ClevelandBrowns.com noted that Anderson Varejao, Matthew Dellavedova and Joe Harris also took part in the event.

Originally established six years ago in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the dance provides teenagers diagnosed with cancer a chance to gussy up and experience a night they might have otherwise missed.

Feran reports guests arrived in limousines from hospitals and homes across northeast Ohio. Hartline dressed up and made the two-hour drive from Columbus to the event, where he and the Cavaliers greeted attendees and escorted girls to the ballroom. Likewise, the Cavalier Girls were on hand escorting the young men.

It looked like a solid night, kept simple with a classic Wizard of Oz theme for decoration.

Hartline seemed to enjoy himself.

"I just really love seeing all the smiles on the kids’ faces," Hartline told Jones. "I plan on going to this event each and every year."
