MLB Schedule great match ups this weekend
With only about 32 games left in the Major League Baseball Schedule there are some great series match ups this weekend. You have your timeless rivalry between the Yankees and Red Soxs which will get allot of the major attention. Some other key match ups are the Texas Rangers vs the Tampa Bay Rays and the Florida Marlins vs the Atlanta Braves. The top match up to me is going to be the San Francisco Giants vs. the Colorado Rockies. Lets discuss all the series and its importance and show over the rest of the schedule. Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays The Texas Rangers are 1 game back to Boston in the AL Wild Card and go into Tampa to face the Rays who are only 4 games back in the Wild Card. This series should be a knock out drag out battle between two young and hungry teams. The Rays are looking to make into to the playoffs after last years World Series run. The Rangers are an upstart bunch and have been playing solid baseball all year and were in 1st in the AL West for a large portion of the season. Florida Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves The Marlins and Braves are both 4 games behind the Colorado Rockies in the NL Wild Card and will be going head to head this weekend in Atlanta. The Marlins are both playing well they just both happen to be in the NL East with the Philadelphia Phillies who are the World Series Champs and are looking like the 2009 NL East Champs. If either team can sweep this series they can make up some major ground in the Wild Card race and provide the fans some a great weekend of baseball. New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Soxs This is the ESPN bias match up and always provides great fireworks, story lines and high intensity of the fans in both cities. This has been a hot and cold series all year and will be interesting to see who will be the hot team this series. The Red Soxs started out 8-0 vs the Yankees this year but the Bombers rebounded by sweeping the Nation in a four game series. The Red Soxs are 6.5 games behind the Yankees and leading the AL Wild Card. The Series will be capped of by the ESPN Sunday Night Game of the week once again and we will get to see Beckett vs. Sabithia battle. San Francisco Giants vs. Colorado Rockies The Giants vs. Rockies is what the MLB Wild Card is all about and this match up may not get the attention as the Yankees vs. Red Sox but its just as critical to baseball outside of the Northeast. Both teams have showed lots of heart and are fighting back and forth for the NL Wild Card and even could make a run at the struggling Dodgers. The Rockies were dead last in the NL West early in the season and have turned it around and been a pleasure to watch. This year the Giants have turned it around from a disappointing 2008 and they have done it with very good pitching and a struggling offense. I think both of these teams are evenly matched and should provide some great entertainment and excitement. Other Games of Interest: Phillies at Mets on Sunday -I Want to see the return of Pedro Martinez to Queens and see the fan reaction of the Met fans. St. Louis at San Diego on Sunday – John Smoltz gets another shot at being a starter as a Cardinal. We will see if the St. Louis Magic works on Smoltz. ©2009 The Fair Ball. All Rights Reserved. . |

- Florida Marlins - The six year plan The Marlins are on the most criticized teams for not spending money to put a quality product on the field. The Marlins 2009 Payroll is about 36 million which is the lowest in the Major leagues. To put it in context the Washington Nationals spent about 60 million for 2009, and the Yankees......
- New York Yankees 6/23/2009 - Stand Pat - The Yankees are in 2nd place trailing Boston by 4 games in the AL East but currently in first place by a game in the wild card. The Yankees are not shy about dealing to improve the team but I think its more about playing......
- Pittsburgh Payroll Purge The Pittsburgh Pirates have done it again, traded away good players for prospects in efforts to dump salary. The Pirates this season alone traded away Adam Laroche ($7,050,000), Nate Mclouth ($2,500,000), Ian Snell ($3,200,000) and Jack Wilson ($7,400,000)....
- Toronto Blue Jays 6/23/2009 - Stand Pat - The Toronto Blue Jays are 5 games over 500 at 38-33 and 1 game out of the Wild Card hunt but I think all moves depend on Roy Halladay and his return from the DL. Roy Halladay seems to be on track to return from......
