Alabama Football Recruiting Offers of the Week

Marc TorrenceMar 29, 2015

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama offered more than just basketball coaches this week, as spring practice ramped up into high gear.

The recruiting efforts didn’t slow down, as prospects came to campus to watch practice. Some left with offers and others got offers over the phone.

Here’s the roundup for the Crimson Tide this week.

Xavier Kelly, 2016 4-Star Weak-Side Defensive End

Kelly was committed to Kansas State before announcing last weekend on his Twitter account that he was opening up his recruitment again.

That opened up a flurry of action that included at least five Power Five offers since then, per his 247Sports page.

"I talked to my dad for about an hour, and we decided we wanted to have the best opportunity for me," Kelly told Bleacher Report’s Damon Sayles. "In order to do that, I needed to reopen my recruiting and explore all of my options."

One of those schools to swoop in on the newly open opportunity was Alabama. The Crimson Tide offered Kelly on Thursday.

Kelly told Sayles that he wants to visit Michigan.

"My dad is from Michigan, and I also have family in Detroit," Kelly said. "I know that Michigan is right down the street. I'm going to go on a visit to see how I like it. I don't know much about [Michigan], but I know it has a historical program and always has a good football team."

247Sports’ Hank South wrote that Kelly doesn’t have a visit planned to Tuscaloosa at the moment but understands the significance of getting the offer.

“They always have a great program every year,” Kelly said. “It’s just a very historical place. It’s big-time. They are one of the top programs every year. I feel like I’ve made a big accomplishment getting the offer.”

According to 247Sports' crystal ball, Nebraska and Michigan are currently the favorites for his signature.

Austin Mack, 2016 4-Star Wide Receiver

Alabama is continuing to go after some midwestern stars, taking on some Big Ten powers in pursuit of top recruits.

The latest is Mack, a 4-star wide receiver from Indiana. Mack was on campus watching practice and got an offer in the process.

"It's awesome," Mack told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong. "When I got to really see what Alabama is, it eliminated all the small talk and bad comments about them. 'Bama is the real deal.”

Per Wiltfong, Mack visited with Nick Saban, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and wide receivers coach Billy Napier. He has already visited Vanderbilt, Michigan and Notre Dame, with visits later planned for Ohio State and Michigan State.

"All great people," Mack said, per Wiltfong. "Got to meet with Coach Saban and sit in a player meeting with Coach Kiffin and Coach Napier to really watch them coach, and it's all great coaching."

Alabama already has a commitment from in-state prospect T.J. Simmons, and Mack would give the Crimson Tide two legitimate receiving threats in one class.

Corey Malone-Hatcher, 2017 4-Star Weak-Side Defensive End

While Alabama got a head start on a major 2017 prospect, Malone-Hatcher was actually already far into his Crimson Tide recruitment when he got the official offer.

According to TideSports.com’s Andrew Bone, Malone-Hatcher’s father is from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and he had already been to campus four times. Malone-Hatcher told Bone the details of his visit:

"

The minute we walked in it felt like they rolled out the red carpet. Coach (Bobby) Williams came to get us as soon as we walked into the lobby.

He talked about the logistics, and when we would speak with Coach Saban. They got my height and weight. We saw the dorms, talked the head of academics. We saw parts of campus we didn't see before. It's a beautiful campus.

After we went on our tour with our tour guide they had a set time when we were supposed to get back to the football complex to meet with Coach Saban. He called us in his office.

He talked about being a leader, making the right decision and taking advantage of opportunities they can offer. He said they are happy to offer me. He said the main thing is to be a leader and develop as a player.

"

Defensive line has always been a strength under Saban, and Malone-Hatcher could be a perfect reloading tool in two years.
