Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL DraftKings' Ideal Lineup Picks for March 30

Steve SilvermanMar 30, 2015

The NHL schedule for Monday night offers some of the most compelling action in recent days. The six-game schedule features four matchups that have prominent playoff implications.

The Montreal Canadiens host the Tampa Bay Lightning in a game that will have huge consequences in the Atlantic Division. The Lightning, who have not lost to the Habs this season, can draw to within one point of Montreal if they can gain a win in regulation.

The up-and-down Chicago Blackhawks host the desperate Los Angeles Kings. The defending Stanley Cup champions are currently on the outside looking in at the playoffs, and they can't let any potential points slip away.

There are quite a few excellent players who can pick up the points you need to help you win your DraftKings fantasy battle, and here are our choices to help you finish on top while staying within our $50,000 budget.

Centers: Jeff Carter ($5,500) and Henrik Sedin ($4,600)

Our first impression was to put high-scoring (and high-priced) Steven Stamkos ($8,500) in the lineup, but the Lightning's 40-goal man has just one point in his last four games, so we decided to look in another direction, even though he has already had a hat trick and a two-goal game against Montreal.

Jeff Carter is always a dangerous scorer, and he should be at his best in this game. The Kings will be rested and ready for a peak effort, while the Blackhawks may be spent after earning a 4-3 victory at Winnipeg Sunday night. Carter has scored 26 goals and 30 assists, and he is a huge factor on the power play with nine goals and five assists. Carter burned the Blackhawks with two goals and an assist in the Kings' last meeting with Chicago on Jan. 28. He hurts them once again.

Henrik Sedin may not be the explosive scorer he was in his prime with the Vancouver Canucks, but he is still one of the sharpest passers in the league, and he can still pick up the points. Sedin has 17 goals and 49 assists this season, and he has two goals and four assists in his last 10 games. Sedin also has 19 assists with the man advantage this season. If the St. Louis Blues don't check him with abandon, Sedin will hurt the Blues.

Wingers: Vladimir Tarasenko ($7,800), Jordan Eberle ($6,700) and Chris Higgins ($4,200)

If you want a sniper on your team, you would be hard-pressed to find a better and more explosive scorer than Vladimir Tarasenko. If the Vancouver Canucks allow him just a little bit of extra space, he can pick out the opening and ruin them with his accurate, vicious wrist shot. Tarasenko has potted 36 goals and added 35 assists, and he is connecting on 14.0 percent of his shots on goal. The Blues' best goal scorer has netted four goals and three assists in his last 10 games, and he should punish the Canucks.

Jordan Eberle comes at a fairly high price, but he is on an eye-catching tear for the Edmonton Oilers. Eberle has scored seven goals and nine assists in his last 10 games, and his .368 shooting percentage over that span will make it very difficult for the Colorado Avalanche to stop him. Eberle has scored 22 goals and 38 assists for the season.

Our budgetary constraints won't allow us to go to the high-rent district for all of our forwards, but Chris Higgins is a hard-working hustler who can pay dividends on the right night. Higgins has scored a pedestrian 11 goals and 22 assists through 71 games, but he has four goals and an assist in his last nine games. We'll take the chance that he makes a solid contribution against the St. Louis Blues.

Defensemen: Victor Hedman ($5,400) and John Klingberg ($4,000)

Victor Hedman is one of the best skating defensemen in the NHL, and when he is allowed to take a couple of strides without being impeded, he can generally get the puck over the red line and create a play or fire it into the offensive zone. Hedman has 10 goals and 27 assists this season, and he has been productive with two goals and four assists in his last 10 games. Hedman had a goal and an assist in Tampa Bay's 4-2 victory over Montreal March 16.

John Klingberg has been a pleasant surprise for the offensive-minded Dallas Stars. He has scored 11 goals and 27 assists for head coach Lindy Ruff, and he has been a positive factor on the power play with two goals and eight assists. Klingberg skates with his head up and excels at finding the open man with his passes. He has scored five points in his last 10 games.

Goaltender: Ben Bishop ($8,400)

While there may be some flaws to Bishop's game, they don't come to the surface against the Montreal Canadiens. He is 4-0 against the Habs with one shutout, and the 6'7" netminder has played his angles well and displayed superb quickness against them. Bishop has a 36-13-4 record with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage this season. He should be primed for a top effort as Tampa Bay tries to track down the Canadiens in the standings and sweep them in the season series.
