Bayern Confirm Robben's Season is Finished

Unfortunately for Bayern supporters, the club confirmed what fans didn't want to hear on Wednesday:

Robben Exits Dortmund Match with Calf Tear

Tuesday, April 28

Bayern originally shared that the 31-year-old exited against Dortmund. Following the match, it was revealed that he suffered a calf tear, per journalist Raphael Honigstein:

Alex Richards of the Mirror chimed in on the news, and manager Pep Guardiola confirmed his problem:

Robben was previously sidelined for weeks with an abdominal tear, per the club's official Twitter feed, halting the fantastic run he was in at the time. The Netherlands international has enjoyed one of his best seasons yet, excelling in a wide role in Guardiola's system.

As shared by WhoScored.com, his influence on this Bayern team is undeniable:

Often ridiculed for his tendency to cut inside and shoot with his left foot, Robben has expanded his skill set in recent years, becoming one of the best wingers in the game. The Bavarians have plenty of depth but no real replacement to make up for Robben's sheer pace and creativity out wide.

Robben and partner Franck Ribery have both missed time this season, but with the likes of Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller filling their shoes adequately, the Bavarian train has kept on rolling.

The stricken Dutchman will miss the upcoming Champions League semi-final ties with Barcelona (and anything thereafter). He was a key part of the club's 2013 continental triumph, scoring the tournament's winning goal against Dortmund at Wembley Stadium.
