Leicester to face Wasps in Premiership final

James HutchisonMay 18, 2008

Defending champions, Leicester Tigers, have snuck into the final of the Guinness Premiership after a one-point victory over Gloucester.

The midlands team only just made it into the play-offs with a last-minute try from Tom Varndell, whereas the West Countrymen had sat atop the table for most of the season, leading the way along with Bath.

Bath were beaten by Wasps at Adams Park, who are now clear favourites for the title. Lawrence Dallaglio’s side have timed their run perfectly, and they seem to be peaking at the right time.

The Tigers on the other hand have ridden their luck, but they are a team that you wouldn’t bet against causing another upset in the final - and given Danny Cipriani will now miss the big showdown due to an ankle injury, Wasps won’t be at full strength.

It should be another epic Wasps v Leicester battle in two weeks’ time.
