Sharpie 500 Provides Little Drama, Great Racing

No NameAug 22, 2009

When Kyle Busch ends up in the Winners Circle, that usually means there won't be any post-race drama.

This was the case as Kyle was able to hold off Mark Martin for the win at Bristol tonight. Marcos Ambrose finished with an impressive third place.

With a mishap on pit road late in the race, Jimmy Johnson gave up the lead, and it essentially came down to Kyle and Mark. With Kyle getting the run off the outside lane, it was difficult for Mark (or anyone for that matter) to pass on the bottom.

Usually Bristol is all about tempers flaring and drivers giving payback. Now that the "Race for the Chase" is only two races away, everyone seems to be able to keep their cool and play nice.

Just another reason I hate the Chase, but that's a story for a different time.

There were less accidents than usual at Thunder Alley, but that is also due to more skilled drivers. These guys are now finding out how to drive this Car of Tomorrow, and everyone seems to know what it can and can not do.

Tony Stewart had one of the roughest nights of anyone. From the beginning, his troubles started with his radio not working. He could hear his crew but they could not hear him. He went a couple of laps down early in the race and was a non-factor for the entire event.

There was some serious movement in the point standings, which was basically what everyone was talking about.

No sparks were flying tonight, no angry words spoke on ESPN after the race, and no pushing or shoving on pit road. I guess that's what happens when a happy Kyle Busch gets to Victory Lane.
