Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL DraftKings Picks for March 27

Steve SilvermanMar 27, 2015

After the NHL provided 11 games to consider Thursday night, it's a much smaller bill of fare Friday night with just three games.

However, sharp fantasy players should be able to put together a workable lineup on DraftKings that could result in an important victory. Two of the games will have at least a ripple effect on playoff implications, while the third game between Dallas and Edmonton may provide a slew of fantasy points between two defensively challenged teams.

Here's our take on the March 27 schedule, as we stay within our $50,000 DraftKings budget.

Centers: Tyler Seguin, Dallas Stars ($8,900) and Marko Dano, Columbus Blue Jackets ($4,500)

It may not look very good for the Dallas Stars as far as the Stanley Cup playoffs are concerned, but head coach Lindy Ruff's team is playing its best hockey of the season, with eight wins in its last 10 games. It's no surprise that Tyler Seguin's return from a knee injury coincides with that hot streak. Seguin has scored 33 goals and 34 assists, and while he is no longer in the race for the Art Ross Trophy (NHL's leading scorer), he figures to find the back of the net at least once against the Edmonton Oilers.

While Seguin is one of the NHL's biggest names, Marko Dano of the Columbus Blue Jackets is at the opposite end of the spectrum. However, Dano is starting to become very productive. He has seven goals and eight assists in 27 games this season, but he has been picking up points at a much more productive rate recently with nine in 10 games. Dano has a chance to light the lamp against the suddenly enigmatic Chicago Blackhawks.

Wingers: Jiri Hudler, Calgary Flames ($6,400), Brandon Saad, Chicago Blackhawks ($4,600) and Nino Niederreiter, Minnesota Wild ($3,500)

We did not go for any of the big-name stars like Zach Parise, Jamie Benn and Marian Hossa, but we don't have to take a back seat with Jiri Hudler or Brandon Saad.

Hudler has been one of the most consistent players on the Flames this season, with 27 goals and 39 assists. However, it's more than the numbers with Hudler. He is one of the smartest players in the league, and he regularly goes to the top scoring areas on the ice, and that's why he has been so productive. He is on fire lately, with six goals and eight assists in his last 10 games, and that's trouble for the Minnesota Wild.

Saad had a slow start to the season, but it was clear that he was going to pick it up at some point because of his size, speed and skill on the ice. Saad has scored 21 goals and 25 assists this season, and it would not be a surprise if he is a consistent 30-goal scorer in the future. He should have several chances to score against the Blue Jackets.

Nino Niederreiter does not have the all-around skill of Hudler or Saad, but he appears to have excellent value against the Calgary Flames. Niederreiter is a much better goal scorer than he is a passer with 22 goals and 13 assists, and look for him to go right to the net in this matchup of playoff-hungry teams. Niederreiter has five points in his last 10 games.

Defensemen: Duncan Keith, Chicago Blackhawks ($5,100) and T.J. Brodie, Calgary Flames ($4,700)

Duncan Keith is capable of taking over any game for the Blackhawks, and since Chicago got handled 4-1 by the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday night, look for him to do just that here against the Blue Jackets. Keith is one of the best puck-handlers in the league, and he has scored 42 points this season. Keith has 14 power-play points, and he should be good for at least one more in this game.

T.J. Brodie is another offensive-minded defenseman, and he has played a key role in the Flames' rise this season with 11 goals and 29 assists. Brodie may not be as gifted as Keith, but he will join the Calgary attack whenever he senses an opportunity to make a big play. His plus-18 rating demonstrates that his instincts have been quite strong thus far.

Goalkeeper: Devan Dubnyk, Minnesota Wild ($8,700)

One of the huge stories of the NHL season has been Devan Dubnyk's rise to prominence. The Wild was one of the most disappointing teams in the league until they signed Dubnyk and put him between the pipes, and he has exceeded all expectations. Dubnyk has a remarkable 33-11-3 record with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. He has six shutouts and will need to be in top form against the Flames.
