Irsay Comments on Pagano's Contract
Friday, April 24
Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star shared comments from Colts owner Jim Irsay on Pagano's contract and status with the team:
""These things are ongoing a lot of times behind the scenes," Irsay said. "We're working on contracts, whether it's management, coaches, players. We had discussions and it doesn't mean that they won't continue. It's not a Super Bowl-or-bust season or anything like that."
Pagano is in the final year of a four-year deal, meaning he could enter the fall without contractual security.
Irsay seemed unconcerned.
"We were proud of our (2014) season and I really feel positive about Chuck and what he's done for us," Irsay said. "There's no question that he's accomplished a lot since he's been here. And we're here tonight for this gala because he had that illness (leukemia) in 2012. Really, it's only been two years, kind of, that he's been coaching. So, he's done a very good job and nothing rules out that we couldn't have an extension done before the season. And if not, we can still, I'm sure, work things out."

Grigson Says Pagano Contract Won't Be a Distraction
Thursday, April 23
Mike Wells of ESPN.com passed along comments from Colts general manager Ryan Grigson, who said that Pagano's contract negotiations wouldn't be a distraction to the team:
"Absolutely not. I don't talk about players contracts; obviously I'm not going to talk about our head coach's. But no, business as usual around here. Everything is good and we're ready. Everyone is looking to do the same thing in this building. We're all trying to achieve the same goal and everyone is on board. Everyone is all in.

Pagano Issues Statement About Negotiations With Colts

Holder reported Pagano's statement on where things currently stand with the Colts:
Pagano Extension Not Expected Before 2015 Season
Thursday, March 26
Pagano has recorded three consecutive 11-win seasons and playoff appearances at the helm in Indianapolis, but the 54-year-old coach will have little security entering the 2015 campaign.
According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Colts have no intention of extending Pagano's contract ahead of the season:
Dianna Marie Russini of NBC4 in Washington, D.C., added further details:
Considering how much success the Colts have enjoyed under Pagano, that decision is somewhat surprising. Indianapolis upset the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the 2014 playoffs and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game before getting blown out by the New England Patriots. However, 11-win seasons don't mean much if you can't win in big playoff games.
Indy still has some work to do before it becomes a serious Super Bowl contender, but it is seemingly on the precipice of becoming exactly that.
Pagano has the benefit of quarterback Andrew Luck under center, so another strong campaign and potentially a third consecutive AFC South crown could very well be in the offing.
If the Colts fail to live up to expectations, though, the organization's reluctance to extend Pagano could be a suggestion that his job is far from safe.
