The Day Speed TV Broke My Heart With It's Truck Series Coverage
Originally I was just taking Wednesday Aug. 19th off as a vacation day but, due to needing to get a bad tooth pulled, I end up taking the week off.
Survived the dentist just fine on Tuesday but I also had to take it easy on Wednesday and just chill out.
Which was no biggie for me. Just figured I've got both NCWTS practices and qualifying prior to the race too watch.
Oh how wrong I was! Much to my horror Speed TV broke my heart by not airing either of the practice sessions but also no qualifying and lets just say their race coverage had one too many commercials for my liking among other things.
Anyways, I set my alarm clock for 8:30am, figuring it would be enough time to feed the dogs, shower, make some coffee, scramble some eggs, make some cheese grits, and eat while I'm watching practice at 10.
Well, I ended up watching "Jacked," rather than the NCWTS first practice for 50 minutes and was pretty sad they didn't show it.
Being a huge fan of the show "Cops," "Jacked" is a pretty cool show but I'd rather have seen the truck practice and get a look at Ron Hornaday Jr.'s No. 33 Georgia Boot paint scheme.
Then I ended up leaving at 11am to run over to treat my wife's miniature horse's eye, since he got a minor cornea ulcer.
I would have made the Truck boys proud with my driving, no one passed me on the four-lane roads, used the passing zones a couple of times to get around slower drivers.
Made it back home five minutes late for the 12pm final practice start, let the dogs out first, turned on Speed again.
Only to see that no final practice session for the Trucks was on, but a re-broadcast of ESPN Michigan Cup race and ended up checking online who won the first practice session.
It was none other than Ron Hornaday Jr., so that pissed me off, not to be able to watch the session and Horn's always a witty guy to hear interviewed.
Then around 3pm, I checked online to see who won the final practice, saw it was rain shortened and it was none other than Brian Scott.
So I got a little madder that I missed the final practice session.
So 4:30pm comes and, you guessed it, I have it on Speed TV and they were showing the game show "Pass Time."
So I figured maybe they tape delay it till 5pm but nope they have Monster Jam on and now I was one pissed off, cussing fan.
Needless to say, I looked it up yet again online to see who won the pole, pissed that they didn't even show qualifying at least.
While it's disappointing they didn't air either practice, it's a sin that they didn't show the qualifying.
Then came race time. I used to think it was cool that Speed doesn't try to compete with Fox, TNT, or ESPN/ABC or emulate them.
But after that lackluster coverage jam packed with one too many commercials, even missing vital action and two lead changes.
Guess I was wrong.
It's a shame to see. Guess with the good ratings it going to their heads and they just want to be like every other network having lackluster coverage.
But even worse, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is your baby! You have exclusive rights to it and it's sad to see you do nothing with it.
Hornaday, with his five-race win streak, gave you the golden opportunity to do a commercial blitz on other networks to attract new interest in the Truck Series and you don't use it.
So put it front and center, don't keep it in the background or leave it behind. Since you miss nothing regarding either the Nationwide or Cup and your not the network for either of those series's.
