Manchester United Transfer News: Dani Alves Terms Emerge, Mats Hummels Rumours

Manchester United are reportedly ready to offer Dani Alves £150,000 per week to sign with the club in the summer, according to Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star.

The Barcelona full-back's contract expires at the end of the season, and he is yet to ink a new deal at Camp Nou. Anderson, who cites Italian sources, suggests Louis van Gaal is "desperate" to land the Brazilian.

However, Pilar Suarez of Goal indicated that Alves still "hopes to sign a new contract with Barcelona," while Jonathan Johnson of ESPN FC tweeted that Paris Saint-Germain could be leading the race for his signature:

Van Gaal doesn't appear keen on starting Rafael at United, and Antonio Valencia's defensive qualities are questionable at the top level.

Although he has performed well after being pushed into the right-back role from his usual position on the wing, Valencia tends to leave space open for the opposition to exploit. Arsenal grabbed their first goal in the 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over United due to this before Valencia miscued his backpass to set up former team-mate Danny Welbeck for the winner.

Alves remains a top-quality player, someone who can improve most sides in the world. He'd be well loved at United—the crowd longs to see attacking football started from the back—but Barca still appear to hold the key to his future.

Hummels Bid Readied

German publication Bild (h/t ITV) reports United will soon make a £33 million bid for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels. He is supposedly Van Gaal's "number one defensive target this summer," according to ITV's article.

This rumour comes shortly after Hummels was said to be "ready to cut ties" with BVB after a miserable season, per John Edwards of the Daily Mail. Edwards noted a potential cost of £36 million may put United off, so it's interesting to note Bild's slightly lower figure.

Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC believes Dortmund are "preparing to listen to offers" for their captain. The side's likely lack of Champions League football could bring about major changes, potentially working in favour of United if they maintain fourth position in the Premier League.
