Simmonds Out for Season

Wednesday, March 25

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced the decision following the game. Simmonds scored a first-period goal to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead before leaving after recording fewer than 13 minutes of ice time. The goal was his 28th of the season, tops on the Flyers. His injury will leave him one goal shy of tying the career-best mark he set last season.

Defenseman Andrew MacDonald will also miss the remainder of the season after suffering an upper-body injury. MacDonald finishes the season with 12 total points in 58 appearances.

The full extent of both injuries is unknown at this time.

With the Flyers highly unlikely to get into the playoffs, sitting nine points out of a wild-card spot, both players will probably merely be getting an early start to their offseason. That the Flyers are immediately ruling them out for the season is also probably a good indicator of the severity of their respective injuries.
