Darrelle Revis Lists Multiple Teams That Were Interested in Signing Him

Scott PolacekMar 25, 2015

Cornerback Darrelle Revis may have signed with the New York Jets this offseason for five years and $70 million, but they were far from the only team that was interested in his services.

Dan Hanzus of NFL.com passed along a quote from Revis that he told SNY's Loud Mouths with NFL Media's Adam Schein and Chris Carlin suggesting a number of squads reached out to him this offseason: "(It) was the Packers, Steelers, Baltimore as well as Cleveland, the Chiefs, the Jets and also the Pats, so there was a number of teams there. I sat down and had conversations with (them) to see if we could work something out."

Revis also pointed out specifically what the New England Patriots could have done to keep him around after the Super Bowl winning season, via Hanzus:

"

You know they had the opportunity, they had a number of options to do a number of things. I had an option for $20 million they could have picked up and they didn't decide to which is fine. They tried to negotiate another deal so you know that was just something I had to go through as well.

"

It is really no surprise that so many marquee franchises wanted Revis in their secondaries. He helped the Patriots reach the NFL’s mountaintop last season as a shutdown corner who shadowed the opponent’s best receiver on almost any down.

He is also on the short list of the premier cornerbacks in the entire NFL and makes things easier for the defense at every level because he rarely needs help in the form of double teams against the pass. That opens up his teammates to make plays in other areas of the game, including against the run or against tight ends and other receivers across the middle.

Revis played for the Jets the first six years of his career and will now try to lead them to the same level his Patriots reached a season ago.
