Brock Lesnar Signs New WWE Contract, Dana White Reacts to Star's UFC Retirement

Daniel RogersMar 25, 2015

Brock Lesnar announced Tuesday on ESPN that he would be re-signing with the WWE after rumors of contract talks with the UFC had been circling for months.

UFC president Dana White weighed in on the signing in an interview with Fox Sports' At the Buzzer:

“I’m happy for him,” White said Wednesday, as transcribed by MMA Junkie. “He was always a standup guy. I knew this (news) three hours ago. He called us and let us know."

Lesnar, the current WWE World Heavyweight champion, has spent time with the UFC, compiling a 5-3 record and winning the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 100 in 2009.

According to the same interview, though, White said Lesnar was tempted by an impressive offer from WWE chairman Vince McMahon, but he isn’t upset.

“First of all, from what I understand, Vince made him an offer he couldn’t refuse, which is awesome,” White said. “I’m happy to hear that, and I’m happy for both of them. ...

“Brock had a really good stint here. He did some amazing things and it was fun to have him.”

WWE superstar Triple H was happy to hear the news that Lesnar was turning down the option to return to the UFC:

Lesnar's run with White's company was cut short because of a battle with diverticulitis, and the UFC likely won't miss him too much, especially with a title bout set between Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum scheduled for UFC 188 in June.

On the other hand, WWE will be glad to have one of its most dominant performers back in the ring. Despite being the current champion, Lesnar has seen limited action since beating John Cena and Seth Rollins to retain the title at the Royal Rumble.

Lesnar is scheduled to headline WrestleMania 31 in a title bout with Roman Reigns this Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
