NFL Still Investigating Hardy Case

Monday, April 6

ESPN's David Newton reported the NFL is still reviewing Hardy's case but should be close to a resolution:

Cole: Hardy Will Appeal Any Suspension Longer Than 2 Games

Friday, April 3

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported that Hardy plans to appeal any potential suspension of more than two games:

NFL Given Access to Photos from Hardy Case

Wednesday, April 1

David Newton of ESPN.com reported that the NFL will have access to photos that were used as evidence in the legal proceedings against Hardy:

"

Wednesday's order will allow the NFL's investigators, attorneys and medical examiner to look at the photographs, draw conclusions and put those conclusions in a report to the league.

According to the complaint, seven photographs that were submitted into evidence by the State at trial were not a part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department investigative file.

The NFL requested access to those photographs that "are believed to be relevant, credible evidence that may bear on whether the PCP has been violated by Hardy."

"We reached a mutually beneficial agreement where we got the documents we wanted in order to proceed with the disciplinary action," said Charlotte attorney Monroe Whitesides Jr., who filed the complaint on behalf of the NFL.

"

Ed Werder of ESPN reported that the news was "significant" and puts the league closer to potentially disciplining Hardy.

Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer reported on what the photos showed:

"

The photos show injuries sustained by Hardy's ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder during an altercation at Hardy's uptown condo last May, according to Monroe Whitesides, the Charlotte attorney representing the NFL.

The pictures were not in the case file that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police turned over to the NFL in February. The league filed a lawsuit in March to obtain the photos.

An order filed Wednesday allows the NFL's medical experts to view the photos, which will remain in prosecutors' possession. Hardy and the NFL Players Association also will have access to them.

[...]

Whitesides, the league's attorney, said the NFL secured a similar consent order from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office in February to obtain photos and a list of the shotguns and semi-automatic rifles Hardy surrendered to authorities following his arrest last year.

"

On March 26, Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News reported that, according to The Charlotte Observer, the NFL is searching for photos of injuries Hardy's ex-girlfriend suffered, as well as photos of Hardy's "gun-covered futon."

Goodell: No Timetable on Hardy Investigation

Wednesday, March 25

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke about the league's investigation into Hardy's original bench trial during the owners meetings, via SI.com's Don Banks and The Charlotte Observer's Joe Person:

Last week, the league filed a lawsuit to gain access to information stemming from Hardy's first trial, where he was found guilty of communicating threats toward and assaulting his former girlfriend. Person noted the hearing date for the NFL's lawsuit will take place on March 31.

Hardy's case was dismissed in a subsequent jury trial on Feb. 9. Although that freed Hardy from a potential immediate suspension, he was—and still is—on the commissioner's exempt list.

Dallas' one-year contract with Hardy is heavily based on incentives. It seems only a matter of time before Hardy and the Cowboys find out how long he may be away from the gridiron in 2015 after missing all but one game last season.
