Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL DraftKings Primer for March 25

Tom Urtz Jr.Mar 24, 2015

The NHL has three games on tap for Wednesday, and there are a lot of opportunities waiting for DK fantasy players who are willing to find them.

The Chicago Blackhawks will take on the Philadelphia Flyers on NBC's Wednesday Night Rivalry, the Edmonton Oilers will look to stop the surging Colorado Avalanche, and the Calgary Flames will look to keep padding their playoff spot versus the Dallas Stars.

Urgency is a word that would summarize action for Wednesday, because teams need to pick up points while they still can. With a light night, you should take advantage of surging combinations, and here is a primer for a March 25 edition of DraftKings daily fantasy hockey.

"Shooting Star" Kari Lehtonen ($8,700)

The Dallas Stars have a remote chance of making the playoffs because they trail the final wild-card spot by a significant margin with 10 games to play. If they miss the playoffs, it won't be Kari Lehtonen's fault, because he's been amazing as of late.

The Stars starter is 6-1-0 with a 1.72 GAA in his last seven starts, and he's played well his entire career versus the Calgary Flames. According to Hockey-Reference, Lehtonen has a 9-3-2 record with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 14 career games against Calgary.

"Burn, Baby, Burn" Jiri Hudler ($5,300) | Sean Monahan ($5,700) | Johnny Gaudreau ($4,900)

For every salient point, there is often an equally salient counterpoint, and on that note I introduce the Calgary Flames' top line.

Jiri Hudler5.115
Sean Monahan4.812
Johnny Gaudreau4.212
Total14.129

Although Lehtonen has historically played well versus Calgary, it is impossible to ignore March's most productive line. In March alone, Jiri Hudler has eight goals and 17 points, Sean Monahan has eight goals and 13 points, and Johnny Gaudreau has five goals and 11 points.

The production has been amazing, and the line just seems to be a threat every night. This is because the line is constantly generating offense, and it has tallied a total of 84 shots.

Calgary is 6-2-2 over the last 10 games, so it may be hard to ignore this line when you consider the all-around success it has had lately.

"Rocky Mountain High" Gabriel Landeskog ($7,100) | Ryan O'Reilly ($6,100) | Alex Tanguay ($4,200)

If you liked what you saw with the Flames' top line and were turned off because of Lehtonen's dominance against Calgary, it is worth investing in the Colorado Avalanche's second line.

Gabriel Landeskog4.511
Ryan O'Reilly3.810
Alex Tanguay2.97
Total11.228

The above trio has been pretty solid in a secondary role, and it should continue against an Edmonton team whose goaltending hasn't gotten the job done lately.

2-4-33.23.884

Throughout the month of March, Landeskog has 11 points, O'Reilly has 10 points, and Tanguay has seven points. The line has really done a good job of setting the tone, and they have been a big reason why Colorado has a 6-3-1 record over its last 10.

Ben Scrivens has fought valiantly while sporting copper and blue, but he's in for a rough go if the Avs offense continues to fire on all cylinders.

Odds and Ends

Tyson Barrie$4,4007 Points in Last 10 GPColorado's top offensive defender who is having a career year. Very low price tag on a defender who will finish season with over 50 points.
Jordan Eberle$7,50014 Points, 4.5 FPPG in Last 10 GPOne of the Oilers' top young forwards who has taken a massive step forward over the last few week.
Marian Hossa$7,80035 points in 44 career games vs. PHIChicago's veteran winger is having a respectable season at age 35, and has historically played well vs. the Flyers.
