There is something to be said for familiarity with the coaching staff, especially in a position as important as offensive coordinator. Houston will need to improve on offense this season if it hopes to build on a 9-7 campaign and reach the postseason.
After all, the Texans were 17th in total offense and 24th in passing yards, which undercut an effective running game that finished fifth in the league in yards per game. It is encouraging for the Texans that Godsey has experience with the quarterbacks because they traded Ryan Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets this offseason and aren’t exactly stacked with superstars under center.
Godsey will have his work cut out for him if he hopes to shape the Houston offense into a dangerous enough attack to reach the postseason this year.
