2015 NFL Mock Draft: Predictions for 1st-Round Prospects as Pro Days Wind Down

Sean ODonnellMar 24, 2015

A productive 2015 free-agency period pushed pro days to the back burner, as blockbuster trades and lucrative signings demanded headlines. With the activity now slowed, let's get up to speed on some results from pro day workouts.

The battle to be the draft's top receiver continues, as both Amari Cooper and Kevin White had tremendous workouts for Alabama and West Virginia, respectively. A few more first-round receivers who really impressed were Louisville's DeVante Parker, Arizona State's Jaelen Strong and Oklahoma's Dorial Green-Beckham. This class is loaded at wideout.

On the defensive side of the ball, Kentucky's Bud Dupree continued his ascension up the draft ranks by following up a great scouting combine with an equally impressive pro day. The same can be said for Clemson's Vic Beasley, who is now a borderline top-10 pick. Missouri's Shane Ray ran a disappointing 40-yard dash, but that shouldn't severely hurt his status as an early selection.

Notable Upcoming Pro Days to Watch

Pro days are winding down, but there are several schools featuring first-round talent that have yet to host their workouts. Rest assured, a bevy of NFL personnel will be on hand to watch these remaining prospects go through drills.

With the draft now just over one month away, here's a look at which prospects you should keep a keen eye on in the twilight of 2015 pro days.

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

This is the big one. The Florida State quarterback really impressed at the scouting combine, displaying a good attitude, plenty of confidence and an NFL-ready skill set during positional drills. If he can put together a pro day that showcases his strengths as a passer, he'll likely secure his spot as the draft's first overall selection.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dante Fowler, OLB, Florida

Florida pass-rusher Dante Fowler didn't exactly blow up the scouting combine, but he performed well in all workouts. He did display plenty of quickness during positional drills, and league personnel will want to get another close look at his skill set during Florida's pro day. If he continues to show that same explosiveness, he should easily remain a top-five pick.

7. Chicago Bears: Danny Shelton, DT, Washington

At 6'2" and 339 pounds, Danny Shelton was surprisingly agile and nimble during workouts at the scouting combine, complementing his great strength nicely. A powerful player, Shelton bullies his way into the backfield, but he was inconsistent during his days at Washington. He'll help his case by showing attending NFL personnel a motivated workout.

22. Pittsburgh Steelers: Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

Marcus Peters performed well at the scouting combine, finishing as a top performer in the 60-yard shuttle. The cornerback's biggest red flag was his dismissal from Washington following altercations with the team's staff. However, he has since made amends and will participate at the team's pro day. His willingness to get back on the right track combined with a solid workout will secure his first-round status.

23. Detroit Lions: Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State

Eddie Goldman's pro day will be extremely important after the 6'4", 336-pound defensive tackle opted not to work out at the combine. Goldman is known for his raw power and ability to fight his way through blocks. He could be a nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme or an interior anchor in a 4-3. Either way, his pro day will have a significant impact on which teams see him as a fit.

32. New England Patriots: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

The 6'5", 313-pound Cameron Erving had a solid scouting combine, finishing as a top performer in the bench press, broad jump and three-cone drill. While he is highly athletic, he's still learning his position along the offensive line after spending time on the defensive side of the ball. He'll need to show technical improvement during his pro day to secure his position in the first round.
