Alabama Shouldn't Put a New Spin on The Big Mac Attack
When Alabama hired Nick Saban, it was said that they hired the guy who may have been the best hired gun in football. Nick is now happy being a member of the Bama Nation and is no longer the hired gun of the program, but the leader of the 'family'.
Now there's a new gunslinger in the midst. Well he's actually not so new as people think. He's been around for a few years, soaking up the offense, working with the receivers and making himself ready for the big showdown at noon in the Georgia Dome.
Well, to be honest, maybe not noon, but the analogy works just fine.
This young gunslinger is from Texas no less. And when he mosied away from those parts to come East to Tuscaloosa, he left as the top gunslinger, dropping everyone who opposed him to the losers bracket.
Yes, there's a new Sheriff in town, or to be more precise, in the Alabama huddle, and his name is Greg McElroy.
Now all great gunslingers had a nickname, well OK, maybe not Wyatt Earp, and that's what worries me. He might just get a bad nickname.
I'm afraid that our fearsome fighter will be labeled with the handiest nickname people could reach for, and that would be Big Mac.
That just doesn't sound too scary does it? I don't want teams wanting to take a bite out our Big Mac. I don't want our team sounding like McDonald Land! Where could it go from there?
Does Saban become Ronald McSaban? Does Julio Jones become Julio Hamburgler? And God forbid a great nickname like Mt. Cody degenerate into the Codypounder.
I say we need to dub this guy now with a cool moniker before he wins this first big game and is stuck with Big Mac.
So use your power as a reader and member here to voice your opinion. I'll throw my ten gallon hat in the ring with one. My choice is McTD.
But being a reasonable man, I know I ain't the smartest feller in town, so let me hear from you 'pardner's'. We have to do this, and we have to do this now or we'll be stuck in McDonald Land with our beloved athletic director known as Mayor McMoorecheese.
