Slaughter attended the Jacksonville Jaguars' camp last August, though he injured his foot and was waived in early August. He caught 74 passes for 1,978 yards and 14 touchdowns at West Texas A&M and also finished his career with three kickoff returns for touchdowns.

He caught the eye of Cardinals scouts and front-office personnel at the first ever veteran combine, which was held on Sunday.

As Rob Rang of CBS Sports noted, Slaughter ran well at the combine:

Slaughter isn't a big receiver, standing just 5'9" and weighing 184 pounds, though the Cardinals found great success with another small receiver last season, John Brown, so perhaps they are hoping lightning strikes twice.

If nothing else, the signing affords them some depth at the position and gives them another player to try out at kick and punt returner in camp this year.
