Gasol Comments on Upcoming Free Agency
Tuesday, March 24
“... I’ll probably want to put my wife in that decision...I haven’t put any time in it. The truth is, I haven’t put any time or any thought in that. It can have no impact right now. It can’t help me or my team. It’s not the time,” Gasol said, courtesy of the New York Post's Fred Kerber.
Kerber also provided Gasol's thoughts on Memphis and its meaning to him and his family:
"I don’t know what factors will play into my decision but the factors that are there today, you can’t change the past.
[...]
I came to Memphis when I was 16. My family’s been tied to the franchise since the franchise has been in Memphis. You can’t change that. I don’t know what the future holds but I know what the past and the present is. I think that’s pretty clear and we’ll see how it goes going forward we’ll see what factors go into my decision. I haven’t put them down or written them down or even thought about them because I think there’s no time. Like I said it’s just not a process you can go through in the season.

Spurs Intend to Make Run at Gasol
Thursday, March 19
The San Antonio Spurs haven't looked like one of the elite teams in the Western Conference this season, and there are plenty of question marks for the team moving forward with stalwarts Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili potentially nearing retirement.
In an effort to maintain their status as a title contender, the Spurs are expected to court Gasol in free agency, according to Sean Deveney of SportingNews.com.
"It depends on what Tim and Manu and everyone there does," one Western Conference executive said. "But if they're going, the Spurs are not going to step back and rebuild, no one thinks that. The understanding is Gasol would be their top target."
While Gasol seems like a great fit in San Antonio, Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News isn't so sure that the Grizzlies will let the 2013 NBA Defensive Player of the Year slip away:
Gasol may not have the same cachet as LeBron James did last offseason, but he can be a franchise-changing player due to the impact he has on both ends of the floor.
Any team would be lucky to land him, but the Spurs in particular would likely have a good handle on how to use him to the best of his abilities.
