Rubin Reportedly Signing with Seahawks
Thursday, March 19
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the Seahawks are signing Rubin to undisclosed terms.
"Seahawks still in the market for DL help. Source says Browns DL Ahtyba Rubin is visiting Seattle today," reported Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, which ESPN's Adam Caplan supported, on March 18.
For the Seahawks, this signing makes sense. Rubin may not be a star player, but head coach Pete Carroll certainly brings out the best in his players. More importantly, Seattle's Legion of Boom secondary takes a ton of pressure off the defensive line. The linemen have a bit more time to attack the quarterback because the secondary closes the window so quickly on him before he can pass to a receiver.
"The 28-year-old Rubin would add some heft to the middle of the Seahawks line, where veteran Kevin Williams is a free agent, and there are no indications they’re trying to keep him," added NBC Sports' Darin Gantt.
Rapoport believes Rubin is a perfect fit for his new team.
Rubin, 28, was selected by the Browns in the sixth round of the 2008 draft and has played for the organization ever since. He's appeared in 99 games and accumulated 338 combined tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception during his career.
