NBA 2K15: Rudy Gobert Shines in Ratings Update, Ultimate Legends Roster and More

Brian MaziqueMar 17, 2015

The Utah Jazz's Rudy Gobert has been a certified beast since joining the starting lineup on Feb. 20, and NBA 2K15 ratings master Mike Stauffer has taken notice. Gobert has averaged 11.1 points, 15 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots since he joined the first five, and he's been rewarded with a one-point boost to his overall rating.

He's now at an 81. The increase came from a one-point hike in offensive rebound and box out, and a four-point jump in defensive rebound. The Enes Kanter trade might be good for the real-life and virtual Jazz.

Are You Old School?

The NBA 2K15 MyLeague and MyGM modes are already phenomenal. As franchise modes go, the two options are the cream of the crop. However, even the best could use a little enhancing from time to time.

With the huge toolbox of customizable options available in the game's creation suite, I was able to create my own little alternate universe. It's a roster...no it's more than a roster. It's the Ultimate Legends roster.

I took all of the pertinent legends included on the classic teams the game includes, and I threw them onto their appropriate teams. Some of the players, like Earl Monroe, who are in the game have stats from a season that wasn't a part of the prime of their career received. That had to be changed.

Essentially, I made Monroe the player he was when he took the league by storm as a member of the Baltimore Bullets. Others who received this makeover were the San Antonio Spurs' Sean Elliott and Chuck Person.

Once all of those legends were put on the appropriate current team, I took to creating the legends that NBA 2K didn't. Reggie Miller? You bet your double wristbands. Charles Barkley? It would be "turrible" without him. The game allows you to create more than 150 players and place them on any team.

From Miller and two versions of Barkley (Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers) to two Kareem Abdul-Jabbars, and all the way to guys like the late Manute Bol and Denver Nuggets legend Michael Adams. Like Prego...it's in there.

Once it was done, the result was a pretty comprehensive all-time roster file that I've shared on the PlayStation 4 network (sorry, Xbox One users). It was uploaded on March 10 and has already been downloaded over 3,500 times.

There's two questions you probably have about this roster, right? How did you get more than 150 players, and how did you go about rating the legends?

First, there's a little workaround that I caught wind of from a YouTuber named Marinersfan18. Take a look at the video to see the very quick and simple process.

Rating the players was a little complicated. The scale was created based on current players' stats and ratings. I took the stats from legends and put them into the scale to generate most of the ratings. For example, if a current player and legend took 250 three-point shots and made 40 percent of them, then the players' three-point ratings would be identical—or similar.

Many of the other ratings are based on statistics, personal knowledge, scouting reports and expert accounts. There's tweaks here and there where appropriate, and quite honestly, it would take an entire article to explain every piece of the process.

Nothing is an exact science, but the gameplay testing has been pretty accurate. Thus far, the reviews of the roster have been pretty positive.

You can download the roster on PS4. The PSN ID: is Franchiseplay99. The name of the roster is: UltimateLegends Roster.

LD2K's MyTeam Challenge

Every week, there's a developer's challenge for MyTeam players. This week, community manager Chris Manning, aka LD2K, inspired the challenge. Gamers are charged with taking on the best of the Manning's beloved Los Angeles Lakers.

Completing the challenge brings a healthy award of $12,000 virtual currency.

Andre Drummond Stars on NBA 2KTV

NBA 2KTV host Rachel DeMita talked to the Detroit Pistons' Andre Drummond about his skills on the sticks. Developer Mike Wang breaks down how to use players like the Milwaukee Bucks' Jabari Parker and more.

The episode also features some amazing top plays from the 2K Park community, as usual.

MyCareer Chronicles

Shakedown2012 in the NBA Finals

YouTuber extraordinaire Shakedown2012's MyCareer player C.J. Shakem has led his Houston Rockets to the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Shakedown2012's impeccable presentation brings the video to life and engrosses you in his experience.

Shakem had a huge game, but was it enough to beat the Cavs, who were playing without Kyrie Irving? Check out the video above.

2K News You Can Use

Did Someone Mention NBA 2K16?

We're about seven months away from the release of the next version of the game. We don't really know anything about the game just yet, but we do know social media manager Ronnie Singh, aka Ronnie 2K, is traveling a lot.

The fact that he even mentioned NBA 2K16 is noteworthy.

MyLeague and MyGM Love

Lefteris "Leftos" Aslanoglou is one of the masterminds behind MyLeague and MyGM. He and Nino Samuel, aka "Da Czar," have reached out to the community in an effort to get suggestions for both modes in NBA 2K16. You see, I said it again. It's like saying Mufasa in the Lion King.

Follow the link in the Da Czar's tweet to have your suggestions heard.

That's all I got today. Stay tuned next week for more NBA 2K goodness.
