Anderson Looking To Test All Weight Classes
Anderson Silva is considered by many to be the pound for pound best fighter in MMA. That topic will always be debated with no clear cut winner but he is a common name in the discussion none the less.
It seems now that after his destruction of Forrest at LHW, and the fact that both he and Lyoto say they will never fight for any money or pressure from the UFC, the spider is looking to test himself at HW.
Anderson wants super fights with big paydays and if he could knock off a couple HW's in the process his name would surly surpass Fedor in most peoples eyes as P4P best.
Although it seems stupid to think that the 185 pound champ (and formerly 167) would challenge guys in the area of 250 pounds consider this: Randy Couture who is considered a top HW fights at about 225-230 while Anderson regularly weighs 215-220 —and is a lot more dangerous than Randy.
Also Silva has already picked an opponent he would like to face at HW and he has picked Frank Mir and there is the fact that as of now he has been losing about 30 pounds to fight at MW (and it doesn't matter who you are that's alot of weight to cut which effects your performance).
Its kind of a scary thought to think that he could be even better at the higher classes due to not cutting much or any weight.
Lets say for the sake of argument that he beats Mir and maybe Cro Cop, who wouldn't like to see him take a shot at Brock?
Its a longshot but with the LHW title not in his eyes until someone beats Machida why should he fight in that class?, and why would the UFC want someone potentially running through their LHW upper echelon for no reason?—It would make the division look bad.
Anderson has also stated that he feels Dan Henderson is not worthy of a shot at his belt yet and should face the winner of Marquardt/Maia. I feel all 3 of them are worthy. But with Hendo next it would only leave the winner of the other fight and possibly Wanderlei as an intriguing matchup.
The MW division would be better off if Silva walked away from it, it would bring excitement and competition back, and honestly it seems that fans are starting to be disinterested with his title defences. It feel as though we are waiting to see who loses next when they fight him.
The UFC and Anderson Silva are better off with him fighting higher classes, and if he wants to fight in HW now I say let him. Its a win win for everyone, either someone finally beats the spider and he loses no respect in the process for moving up in weight, or he does the unthinkable and captures another belt.
Plus there is the outside chance of becoming the first fighter to win three belts in three division and to possibly hold two at once.
