Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Golf: Cover and Trailer for New EA Sports Video Game
EA Sports officially kicks off a new era in its PGA Tour Golf series. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy has become the cover athlete, and the game will now carry his name. Previously, the series had been known as Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14—which released in March 2013—was the last bearing the legend's name.
It's time for a new era, and McIlroy is leading the charge. Here's a look at a video that helps to announce the game and McIlroy's involvement with the project:
Per a press release made available to Bleacher Report, here's what McIlroy had to say about the honor: “I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. This is a great honor, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”
McIlroy is a four-time major champion who represents the next generation of golfers who will carry the sport's popularity for the next 10-15 years. Thus, he was a logical choice for EA Sports to target as the face of its golf franchise.
Such a significant brand change is a big deal in the world of sports video games. It's not quite as big of a deal as a change to the name of the Madden franchise would be, but it's still a big transition. Here's a look at McIlroy on the cover of the game for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One:

The game will run on the Frostbite engine which has helped to allow the developers at EA Sports to create new environments and more detailed courses. The Frostbite engine is capable of loading the entire course from the beginning of a round. That is designed to reduce load times between holes. It also lets gamers play their shot from "almost any location" on the course.

There's also the inclusion of new fantasy courses for additional depth. This will be the first next-generation version of the series and the graphics in the trailer and in the images above look amazing. We cannot wait for more information to drop on this title. No release date has been announced as of yet, but it seems logical to expect the game to be available in the summer.
Without question, this latest bit of news has only added to the hype for one of the more highly anticipated sports games of the year.
