Johnson Confirms Redskins Deal
Sunday, Mar. 15
Johnson confirmed that he signed a deal to join the Redskins:
Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported that it is a two-year deal worth $4 million.
On March 15, ESPN's Adam Caplan reported that Johnson was taking a trip to Washington, D.C., where he could be given the chance to start for the first time in his career:
It's hard to stand out in Seattle's secondary, especially as a backup with Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas ahead of you on the depth chart. Yet Johnson has managed to draw some attention for his physical play over the years.
In fact, Caplan listed Johnson among his free-agent sleepers this offseason in a piece for ESPN.com:
"The hard-hitting safety was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011, and he has been the team's top backup at the position in the time since. Multiple league sources said at least one NFC team tried to trade for him during the past few seasons, so even as a backup, Johnson has drawn the watchful eye of other clubs. That's a good sign for his market as a free agent, should he become available.
"
Adding Johnson to a Washington secondary that just got Chris Culliver on a four-year deal represents a huge upgrade for this franchise. Jay Gruden's defense finished in the bottom 10 in pass yards allowed and opponent completion percentage (h/t ESPN.com).
