Trent Richardson Files Grievance over Colts Suspension: Latest Details, Reaction

Adam WellsMar 13, 2015

Trent Richardson's career with the Indianapolis Colts may be over, but the running back isn't done fighting the team over his suspension during the team's playoff run.

According to Pro Football Talk, Richardson has filed a grievance against the Colts because of the suspension that could force the team to pay him over $3 million:

Days after the Colts lost to New England in the AFC Championship Game, general manager Ryan Grigson said during a press conference, via Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, that Richardson had been suspended two games before discussing whether the team would bring the former No. 3 pick back:

"

The thing is, every situation is different. Every player and how we deal with him is gonna be different. But he'll be lumped into that conversation with guys this offseason -- where's he fit? Where is he going? Is his arrow up, down, sideways, 45-degree angle? -- and we gotta figure all these things out.

"

Richardson, who was originally drafted by Cleveland in 2012 before being traded to Indianapolis early in 2014, has been one of the biggest busts in recent memory. He's averaged 3.3 yards per carry on 614 attempts and didn't appear in any of the Colts' three playoff games in January.

The 24-year-old was benched in the Divisional Round against Denver and didn't travel with the team to New England reportedly due to personal reasons.

The Colts made the decision to get rid of Richardson on Thursday, officially announcing they had waived hm after two seasons with the team. He's going to have a lot of convincing to do this offseason if he hopes to find a franchise willing to take a chance on him.

In addition to searching for work, Richardson is now trying to recoup some of the money he feels the Colts have wrongly taken away from him. It's been one mess after another for the former Alabama star since entering the NFL, with no immediate end in sight.
