Is Vick an Excuse For Racial Division ...ask Hugh Douglas

Yesterday I was listening to both sports talk radio stations and heard something so disturbing yet not surprising....Hugh Douglas thinks we have problems with Vick because he is black.  GIVE ME A BREAK, HUGH!  The saying "it's better to be quiet and thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt" applies here.  All of my personal contacts with Hugh have left me feeling that: 

a.  off the radio (and in one case with me mic'd and on air with him) he is dumb as dirt

b. when it came to showing up at my opening he was an hour and a half late - and rude to fans so  very disrespectful 

c.  on the WIP bus to camp his behavior and language was not acceptable for even me (and I can be edgy)  and very rude and obnoxious, poor role model 

Did it surprise me that he decided White people hate Vick because he is black and we do not understand that dog fighting is part of black culture?   Not at all.  I did not know that black people also liked to electrocute dogs and drown then as part of the losers ceremony. That is what sociopaths do, not black people.  Unfortunately, the racist is Hugh Douglas. 

Look, I am a social worker and where my clinic was located was a barrio where there was cock fighting.  Regardless of color, everyone in the barrio thought it was awful and everyone in the barrio did it anyway.  Many of them ate the birds since what meat was left on the dead bird's bones made for some "good eatins."  I did not approve but had to deal (which might be what Eagles fans have to do with Vick).  Dog fighting was another story and there was never a dog fight.  How would I know?  I was the clinic directer, addictions counselor and social worker and had to deal with more ex cons that one can imagine.  More secrets were spilled in my office than anyone can imagine.  In the pecking order of illegal " amusement" dog fighting is the lowest of the low and then death by torture...off the low chart.  Had Vick been white, red, yellow or green I would call for his head, or at least a year to really prove himself as a decent human being.

Every good convict finds G-d of some sort in prison and prays..or changes his name to Mary and wars lace undies under the jumpsuit.  To not realize that you were doing something "real bad" until the prison door slams behind you?  Yes that does qualify as a socio path,  Comparing Steve McNair to Vick is sad and stupid too - different crimes, one against his family and one a felony.  I did not hear Hugh list all of that bad White players but Big Ben did not rape the woman in a hotel (he did have sex with her...no dog died during his affair(s)).  That was wrong.  Michael Phelps behaving like a drunkin idiot and smoking weed (illegal - but a black Eagle got caught and I am angrier at Phelps), not acceptable because Phelps is a national hero and is suppose to represent us again in the Olympics.  Then there is the "colorful" list of athletes using performance enhancing drugs...do not care what color they are, is that racial?

I want to end the race thing here with this...Philly has enough problems especially with the emergence of the New Black Panthers in the City of Brotherly Love.  There are very fine Black broadcasters who find Vick's behavior (and seemingly lack of remorseful attitude) rather disgusting.  We have our share of Clansmen too, who will hop on a story with racial underpinnings.  White people who hunt are not hypocrites, people who eat meat, and yes in some countries dog,  do so because maybe they use the protein available to them?  People who eat bugs, yech...but get goodie points.  No animal need be tortured but under certain cases drug development must take place, animals are raised for domestic reasons, herds are thinned for the good of the animal and human population.  What Vick did was intentional torture of dogs.  No excuses.  He has the capacity to be a great ball player if he also gets "unlazy" real fast.  He had a free education, and did not complete it...he had a great contract, cash out the whazoo and lived a charmed life but did not care enough to actually take his career seriously and work at it.  Any athlete, actor, vocalist, artist with a G-d given talent that throws it away then walks out of prison without proving oneself and right away given a second chance is just charmed and to me needs a year to prove they are deserving of the second chance.  His window of opportunity closing...gee wiz, should have thought of that before he tortured animals.

Color aside...how many people in Philly get the Vick second chance?  And where is the second chance for Eagle employee who blogged and was subsequently fired by the Eagles when he, on his own time, ripped them about B Dawk?  Bring him back!
