Jose Mourinho Hits Out at Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness in Chelsea Presser

Nick AkermanMar 13, 2015

Jose Mourinho has slammed Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness for their criticism of Chelsea, suggesting the Sky Sports pundits, who denounced the club's tactics, have short memories.

Carragher labelled Chelsea player's "disgraceful" for surrounding referee Bjorn Kuipers prior to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's sending off during the Blues' Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, as reported by Alex Sharp of MailOnline.

Souness called Chelsea "pathetic" on the same broadcast, saying PSG are a "proper team," per Sharp.

Mourinho hasn't welcomed such comments and retaliated during his pre-match presser ahead of the side's Premier League fixture with Southampton, per Sam Wallace of The Independent:

Mourinho said the following about Carragher, per Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC:

Chelsea's official Twitter account clarified his comments:

Carragher doesn't expect Mourinho to talk with him on air anytime soon:

Mourinho leads his side into the tricky clash with Saints needing a response.

Chelsea were outplayed by PSG, a factor that became more prominent after Zlatan was dismissed. They struggled with lethargy, failed to move the ball quickly and didn't create clear opportunities on goal. Laurent Blanc's side dictated by keeping possession moving through midfield, with Thiago Motta, Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti interchanging freely.

Former Blues centre-back David Luiz and Thiago Silva scored headed goals to make the score 2-2 after extra time, with PSG progressing on the away-goals ruling. Squawka highlighted Chelsea's poor defensive work from set pieces:

Mourinho has suggested this is being addressed, per the club's official Twitter account:

The Portuguese boss expects his team to deal with the task of facing Southampton at Stamford Bridge:

Ronald Koeman's side grabbed a deserved 1-1 draw when the two sides met at St. Mary's in December but have struggled for consistent form in recent times. Southampton have lost two of their last three and have fallen away from the Champions League places, now residing four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. A win over Chelsea would thrust them back into the mix.

Mourinho's men are five points clear with a game in hand over Manchester City. Southampton rank among the team's toughest remaining tests in their last 11 games, with encounters against United, Arsenal and Liverpool on the horizon.

A victory over Saints will eliminate some of the pressure built over the last few days and put Chelsea on the brink of their second trophy of the season.
