Florida Times-Union: Jaguars Release Bryant
Thursday, March 12
According to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, the Jaguars have released Bryant days before he was due a roster bonus:
Bryant played one season in Jacksonville after signing a four-year contract with the team in 2014. He started all 16 games last year, recording 23 total tackles and one sack. The veteran defender spent the first six years of his career in Seattle, winning a Super Bowl in 2013.
One reason the Jaguars were able to cut bait with Bryant so quickly, per Zack Moore of Over the Cap, is the lack of leverage in his contract:
It also seemed like Bryant was in trouble when the Jaguars signed Jared Odrick, who is three years younger and serves the same purpose as a big defensive end.
The 30-year old Bryant should latch on somewhere quickly because he's a big-bodied, versatile defensive player. He's not going to transform a defensive line on his own, but he has been a valuable piece on quality teams in the past.
