Viking's Favre Vs. Packers Staff: The Simple Facts

rOb KAug 19, 2009

Brett Favre is not a jerk, or an @$$ hole like some Packer fans would love to persuade you to believe. In fact, it would be impossible for the names Brett and Favre to be used in a sentence with "is a jerk" or 'is an @$$ hole". Brett Favre gave Packer fans some of the best years they will ever have (for a very long time)! It wasn't Brett's choice to leave the Packers, he was TRADED. That's another pair of words that should never be seen together: Packers TRADED Favre. Which is what they did of course. Favre may not just want back at them, but I think I speak on behalf of all Favre fans when I say, I sure as hell want him to get back at them. Last year, irrate Favre fans such as myself would have wanted the Vikings to beat the Packers in both games last year (which they did anyway), had that been Favre's new team at the time. Now, after cooling off, I would say I want to see the Packers/Vikings split this seasons rivalry. I grew up in Wisconsin, raised as a Packers fan obviously, and still think Brett deserves to kick the snot out of McCarthy and Thompson's Packers. Our Packers are "their Packers" at this time seeing as how we would clearly manage legendary quarterbacks a little better. I refuse to be represented by a fat head coach named MIKE (they had 4 "not-as-fat" Mikes before him).

In a Journal Sentinel headline article about Favre's decision to play as a Viking, Nick Barnett said "He was a great quarter back, a great man, and a great leader. Would I like to hit him? Hell yeah I would like to hit him." This level of "grudge holding" seems a little immature. Granted I am a Barnett fan (and wore his jersey to this years rained-out Family Night), I have to admit this is kind of stupid and a little influenced. He knows how pissed off Packers fans are, and he is plaiyng in to that. What a lot of fans fail to realise is that Brett is not the first player to "retire" and then switch teams. Hall of Famer and defensive great, Reggie White, along with the near Jerry Rice level reciever in Antonio Freeman, BOTH "retired" and returned to play for a different team. This scenario with #4 is almost the same as that of Freeman's as Freeman also went to a rival, the Seahawks. Why is everyone more pissed off at the greatest player (at least at QB) of all time versus being pissed off at "just" legendary players?

I for one am looking forward to losing to the Vikings in Minnesota. I don't want them to deal us a home loss no matter what, regardless of my hatred toward GB staff. Favre is still great, Rodgers is guarunteed to STILL be adjusting. Back a winner once in awhille. Pride only means so much when it runs you into becoming simply stupid. (That was not a shot at Favre, it was a shot at Green Bay Packer fan-Favre haters.)
