WWE WrestleMania 2015: How to Fix Least Promising Storylines So Far

The excitement should be through the roof as the WrestleMania pay-per-view approaches, but unlike many other years in the history of WWE’s biggest event, there are several lackluster storylines that need repairing.

From John Cena's making Rusev pass out and tap out in one segment to the game of Hot Potato being played with the Intercontinental Championship, there are several angles lacking promise which could be fixed in the final two weeks before the PPV.

Here are the least promising storylines heading into WrestleMania 31 and the best ways to change them.

John Cena vs. Rusev

After watching Rusev force Cena to pass out at Fastlane, there were few fans who expected the Russian sympathizer to get the victory at WrestleMania, but the booking since the February PPV has been dreadful.

Without a doubt, the WWE Universe wants a more aggressive Cena, but forcing Rusev to pass out and then waking him up with water only to force him to tap out was overboard. WWE Creative could have come up with a better way to accomplish the same goal.

Aggression is the key to more fans enjoying Cena’s work, but Cena's burial of a talent like Rusev on Monday’s Raw demonstrates why so many fans have a serious problem with the company’s franchise player.

After Cena’s brutal attack, it will be key to make Rusev and his manager Lana look strong in the final two weeks of build. He has been booked as one of the top heels in the company for a year, and fans should be able to believe he can win at WrestleMania.

As of right now, there are few who can buy a Cena loss.

The Intercontinental Championship Match

When people say that WWE has been playing Hot Potato with the Intercontinental Championship, it isn’t a metaphor or a joke anymore. The company is literally allowing the combatants in this Ladder match to steal the title from each other at will.

The addition of Daniel Bryan to a bout that already includes stars like Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Luke Harper and Bad News Barrett helps make this one of the most anticipated in-ring matches on the card. Unfortunately, none of the build made sense or did anything to help the credibility of the IC title.

For the first week, having R-Truth on commentary added an element of fun to the match. Since the WWE saw the success he had at making people laugh, though, the decision was made to make this entire storyline a long series of jokes.

Now that the angle is dragging down legitimate top stars who could be headlining this WrestleMania, the only hope in the few remaining weeks is to book this program as seriously as possible and avoid any more jokes.

WWE must give the belt back to Barrett and try to salvage this storyline. Otherwise, this match will steal the show at the biggest PPV of the year and will have no long-term impact on the company.

A Divas Tag Team Match

After a movement on Twitter to give Divas a chance swept the WWE, there was a hope that the recommendation would be followed by those booking the events. Unfortunately, the best they could come up with is a Divas tag team match at WrestleMania.

Instead of building to a marquee singles match for the Divas Championship, WWE has decided it’s a better use of talent to have The Bella Twins team up to take on the unlikely duo of Paige and AJ Lee.

Since this is the direction the angle is taking regardless of whether it’s best for business or not, the company can save the storyline by starting to tease tension between The Bella Twins that can ultimately lead to a one-on-one feud.

In the meantime, Paige and AJ should be teasing tension as well, but this entire program should be focused on breaking up The Bella Twins. Let’s just hope the Divas receive the proper time needed to work a high-caliber match.
