Sam Bradford to Eagles: Comments, Top Takeaways from Press Conference

Timothy RappMar 11, 2015

On a day of crazy trades and major signings Tuesday, few transactions shocked the NFL quite like the Philadelphia Eagles acquiring Sam Bradford from the St. Louis Rams for Nick Foles, with a slew of picks exchanged between the teams.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bradford was officially unveiled as an Eagle in a press conference and quickly expressed his excitement at joining the team and getting to work with Chip Kelly, per the NFL Network on Twitter:

Bradford also talked about his fit in Philly's system, per Tim McManus of 97.5 The Fanatic:

Ultimately, he seemed pleased to be coming to an organization that really wanted him, per Matt Lombardo of NJ.com:

That said, he knows he has to show both the team and the city of Philadelphia that he was worth the gamble, as Reuben Frank of CSN Philly passes along:

Of course, the biggest concern with Bradford is his injury history. He hasn't played in the NFL since 2013, having suffered ACL tears in consecutive years, and he talked about how difficult the recovery was from his injury before the 2014 season, per Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal:

That might be one reason why Bradford and the Eagles haven't yet discussed his contract, as he confirmed via Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice:

But he did confirm that he would love to play once more with his former Oklahoma teammate and roommate, DeMarco Murray, per Albert Breer of NFL.com:

That should have Eagles fans excited.

He also spoke on the status of his recovery:

So, what's the takeaway for Eagles fans?

Well, for starters, Bob Grotz of DelcoTimes.com thinks Bradford approached this press conference like a man who will be Philly's starting quarterback for years to come:

And Nick Wagoner of ESPN thought he handled himself quite well:

There are a lot of question marks about Bradford's acquisition in Philly. Why trade for a player with his injury history? Why give up picks for a player with his big contract this season? Does this signal the end of the Marcus Mariota pursuit?

For now, however, Bradford appears to be the man in Philadelphia. If he was ever going to resurrect his career anywhere, doing so in Philadelphia, under Kelly's system, seems like a great opportunity. The Eagles have taken a huge gamble bringing him aboard—that much is for certain.

If Bradford's presser is any indication, he seems up to the challenge of proving that Kelly and company made the right decision.
