Khan Announces Fight vs. Algieri

Thursday, April 2

Khan announced on YouTube that he would be entering the ring with Algieri on May 30, putting any potential plans to fight Broner on hold for the time being.

In addition, Broner has posted a video on Instagram of him talking with Khan on FaceTime, in which the American says: “Hey, tell them to make the fight, man, let's get this money,” per Michael Gadd of the MailOnline:

Khan Wants Broner, But Doubts Fight Will Happen

Monday, March 30

The British star has been unashamed in his willingness to go toe-to-toe with the controversial Broner and speaking with Ryan Burton of BoxingScene.com at the Jhonny Gonzalez-Gary Russell Jr. fight, revealed that as long the fight is at 147, he would be willing to fight Broner:

"

I'm open to it big time. I would love to fight Adrien Broner. I am going to speak to Al Haymon about it while I am here and hopefully we can get something done.  That could be the next fight.

That (fight) would be amazing but obviously I can't make below 147. I am a 147 pound fighter so I don't want to go down in weight.

"

It’s a tantalizing prospect and a bout that would surely encapsulate fight fans around the world. Broner also admitted on Twitter that he had spoken to Khan about a potential June 6 date prior to the Algieri announcement:

But speaking with Burton, Khan has revealed that he’s unsure whether the American will agree to a fight: “I can't see Broner taking it,” said the Brit. “He said all this stuff on social media but I can't see him taking it to be honest with you. It would be a big fight.”

Khan Declares He Wants to Fight Broner

Tuesday, Mar. 10

Khan tweeted out that he "would love to fight" Broner:

This post came after Broner revealed he wouldn't shy away from the 28-year-old, even if it meant fighting in Khan's native England.

"I can't wait," he said about potentially taking on Khan, per Scott Gilfoid of BoxingNews24. "I'd even fight him at Wembley."

Khan's last fight came on Dec. 13 as he dispatched Devon Alexander in a unanimous-decision victory. Over the next few months, he firmly hitched his wagon to a potential bout with Floyd Mayweather. Since Mayweather will instead face Manny Pacquiao, Khan has been left in the lurch a bit.

Taking on Broner could be the next logical avenue for Khan if he's still determined to chase a big-money fight against Mayweather or Pacquiao.

For Broner, meanwhile, beating Khan would silence some of his doubters after he's flattered to deceive for much of his in-ring career. He hasn't exactly been tested since losing to Marcos Maidana in 2013.

It wouldn't mean instant legitimacy, but Broner would take a big step forward in his career with a victory.
